Happy holidays everyone, wherever you are, whatever you celebrate, or even if you don't... Hope you all have a really good holiday season! And I hope you all visit Quackers next week for the New Year and continue to visit us throughout 2010 and beyond.

06-12-2009

It's been a very trying couple of weeks here. There have been quite a lot of bad times, including the death of one of the family pets, which hit quite hard. Patches had, after all, been with us for the better part of fifteen years. Things are getting back to normal now though with the most disruptive thing now being work. Looking at my schedule going into January, it's looking like there might still be some delays to upcoming strips. I'm hoping they won't be too severe, and if the last couple of weeks have been anything to go by I should still be able to get the strips up in the week's they're intended to appear in (even if it's just by a matter of minutes!). So, check back over the upcoming weekends to see Jason and the others and how they're managing to cope with the run up to the holidays...

23-11-2009

Things continue to be a little rough around here, causing even more delays to the comic. The newest strip (originally scheduled for last Thursday) is now up and available for viewing. As for this week's strip, I can only speculate as to when I'll be able to get it done. I'm planning on working on it as much as possible in the next couple of days in between times I'm at my new job, but I fear that still won't be enough time to get it posted by Thursday. Again, I would like to think I can get it posted by Saturday at the latest, but be prepared for it to be delayed again :(

16-11-2009

OK, so November has traditionally always been a month of problems for me and for Quackers in general. It seems that whenever this month rolls around there are things that come into play to make updates here difficult, if not downright impossible. So why should this year be any different? I recently started a new (temporary) job which, despite the limited hours, has meant finishing the strip meant to be posted last week has proven difficult. However it is now finished and has been posted at last! As much as I'd like to say that this week's planned strip would appear on time, it's not very likely at the moment. I will try to make sure it arrives here before the weekend is out though. After that, once I'm used to my new routine, I might be able to get back to posting at the regular timeslot. For now though, enjoy the delayed strip and be sure to check back at the weekend for this week's strip.

05-11-2009

It's been something of a pleasure to do a strip in colour after a month of doing strips in greyscale. While the October Halloween strips were fun to do, it's nice to be able to mess around with colours again (not to mention shading and other special effects). The strip this week also features the return of one of our supporting characters, the appearance of whom should please at least one reader out there!

08-10-2009

We're in October now, so that means it's the start of the usual Quackers Halloween Special. For the rest of this month the strips will be a spooky tale of terror (and hopefully some laughs). Unlike previous years where I've tried to do the whole story in one week, I'm spreading this one out to cover the month. It means less strips for you guys, unfortunately, but it does mean that I have the time to get them done properly and up to a better standard than I usually do when I rush to do them all within 5-7 days. So, I hope you all enjoy the special effects laden first episode and remember to return again next week for the next chilling installment! Mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

04-10-2009

OK, so there have been some pretty big delays. Computer problems, injuries, a general lack of time and some loss of motivation have all contributed to the problems. However, the next (and final, for now) strip of Captain Witless is now up.
For the last few months I've been trying to make sure that Quackers updates (mostly) every Tuesday. It used to fit in quite well with my schedule, but things change. So, from next week Quackers will be updated on Thursdays instead. I'll start it as a trial thing and see how it goes. Hopefully it'll help kick things back on track.

24-09-2009

I've not really had the time this week to work on a proper strip. However I have posted a new picture based on the adventures of Captain Witless: The Astounding Tales of the Salty Seal. I've also made the image into some new wallpaper for your computers. The first in two years, and coincidentally, the last wallpaper was also of Captain Witless. Next week there should be another episode from the logs of Captain Witless, after which we will be in October and beginning our traditional Halloween Special!

08-09-2009

After a two year abscence we finally get to see a new strip this week featuring Jason's ancestor, Captain Witless, pirate captain of the Salty Seal. A pirate ship which strikes terror into the hearts of even those on land... because the crew are so bad at parking. And for those of you paying attention, or those who can even remember as far back as 2007 when Witless first appeared, you'll realise that Tom's ancestor was never a part of the crew before. Something that is rectified this week as we see him meeting the captain properly for the first time since coming aboard.

September has always been a piraty month, and with International Talk Like a Pirate Day almost upon us (September 19th kids!), it seemed a good and appropriate time to bring back one of my personal favourite characters. True he might not be popular with other people, but it's my comic, so I can include who I want, so there ;)
Join us again next week for more daring pirate tales with Captain Witless and the crew of the Salty Seal!

01-09-2009

So, after a brief lapse last week, things are starting to get back on track here. Not everything's working out yet, but enough things have returned to normal that I was (finally) able to finish the next strip. This should mean that I can get things back on schedule.
This week's role playing strip ends this part of the story. There is certainly much more to come, but as this part of the story was slipped in to bridge the previous part of the plot to what I have coming up, it was bound to be a short chapter. Next week, all being well, we shall be reunited with a character we haven't seen for some time...

24-08-2009

Unfortunately, things have been rather stressful this last week. Several things have happened that have meant I've been unable to effectively work, or concentrate on the comic. As such I've decided that it would be best to place the strip on hiatus for the week while I try and sort things out and get my life back into some kind of order. I'm hoping that things ease up enough that I can post the next strip here next Tuesday (1st Sept), but should there be any problems doing so I shall be sure to update you all.

18-08-2009

The latest strip took a lot of completing, I can tell you! It wasn't part of the story that I had originally planned, but is something I had to come up with real quick to tie in the last episode with what will happen in the future. Although I have now had to re-organise the episode schedule for this storyline. Originally I was going to have the gang move from the Plains of Pain and into an area not on their map (not that that's done them any good so far). But those strips have now been pushed back to make room for the upcoming ones that, quite frankly, I've been more interested in getting told. Which means that now, by sure dumb luck for both me and the characters, they will actually be following the route laid out by Jason way back in October of 2007 ("What's In A Name?") a little more faithfully! It's strange how some things work out.
These strips won't be going on forever though. Especially if they keep ending up as long and painstaking to draw as this last one. So for those of you who aren't so interested in these tales of fantasy and idiocy, you won't have much longer to wait before we're back with our normal setting of weirdness and idiocy.

11-08-2009

We find ourselves back with the team playing their fantasy adventure game again this week. Unfortunately they still haven't managed to get very far as they're still deep in the Plains of Pain and still trying to figure out which way to go (well no one said they were very good at the game). And as with all good old-fashioned fantasy stories, someone thinks it's a good idea to break into song. And while Jason may be bad, I still think he can probably sing better than a few of the characters from Lord of the Rings (Tom Bombadil certainly needed to learn a thing or two about lyrical prose).
There will be more role playing next week, when the gang may actually figure out what it is they're doing...

04-08-2009

Jason's trials and tribulations with his potted plant come to an end in today's episode. Next week we will be rejoining the gang as they continue their fantasy role playing game. Will they have come any closer to getting the treasure they've been seeking after all this time? Will they ever manage to figure out which end of the map is up? All shall be revealed in the upcoming episodes!

28-07-2009

A slight delay in posting this week. Apologies all round for that, but I got a little behind with Quackers while working on a couple of other art projects over the last several days. But we've now updated and the strip this week carries on the efforts of Jason to grow his stubborn pot plant. If nothing else you have to at least give him points for his persistance...

21-07-2009

As we all know by now, Jason is not the kind of duck to give up easily. And so his quest to grow his potted plant continues this week. For all those of you betting on the plant winning out over Jason in their battle of wits, don't get too excited yet! Round three begins next week!

14-07-2009

If you've been wondering what Jason and Tom have been up to in the last month while we've been following the adventures of Commander Witless, then look no further than this week's episode. As excpected it's the sort of thing that Jason typically gets up to when left to his own devices... Next week we'll see just what trouble Jason can get into when he undertakes a project of this kind!

Also, for those of you visiting who are on Facebook, Quackers now has it's own Facebook group which you can join. Just hop on over to this page:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=101244372438
I'm still deciding what sort of things to use the group for. As well as an additional source for Quackers-like news, I may also post some select pieces of Quackers art there, or some work in progress from time to time. In the meantime the group can be used for discussions or suggestions for the comic, so please take a look and sign up as a fan! :D

07-07-2009

This week we leave Commander Witless to dig himslef out of his current predicament, as next week we will be returning to the usual Quackers set-up and time-frame. Jason and Tom will be back in their old roles and we shall get to see just how good Jason is at gardening...
other than that there really isn't a lot else to mention so far this week. So, join us in a week's time for the usual Quackers shenanigans!

30-06-2009

After seeing last week's comic, a friend asked me about whether or not Commander Witless would even be able to calculate the stardate. Considering how indecipherable they usually are in programmes like Star Trek and Witless' undoubted ability to mess things up, it's not such a suprising question. The answer to that question comes in the form of this week's strip... I'm sure you all know what the answer is by now.

23-06-2009

You know something? I hate drawing spaceships. I'm awful at it. I have a terrible time just trying to copy existing ones from films and TV. So, doing a set of strips with a science fiction setting and based aboard a spaceship has given me more than just a small amount of stress. To be honest I've been agonising over how the ship that Commander Witless is supposed to be captaining is to look for quite some time. Months, actually, ever since I decided that I'd start the strips in the summer. And in all that time I've come up with literally dozens of different designs. Some extravagant, some simple. Some cool looking, some appearing to be designed by a particularly untalented rock. In the end I decided upon the look that I did for two reasons... 1) I needed something simple to draw each week that wouldn't take up too much time with little details, and 2) a ship that looks like a duck really is the sort of thing that a decendant of Jason would use. I can't really imagine him in anything else, frankly. And so we find the first depiction of Commander Witless' ship in this week's strip a little simple perhaps, but doing it's job. The design may change a little in the future, but for now it will suffice. Enjoy, and see you all next week for the continuing adventures of Commander Witless!

18-06-2009

Well, something just didn't want me to get this week's strip online at all! I'm afraid that the lack of promised updates yesterday was due to unforseen technical circumstances. I have just been in the middle of changing broadband supplier, in order to get a faster line. But I was never told when they were actually going to get around to switching the services over. I was supposed to get some warning, but that just never happened. As a result I was left without any internet connection at all yesterday, meaning I couldn't upload or update anything. Anyway, all that is taken care of now and finally this week's strip is up! Eagle-eyed readers will notice that there's an extra name on the credits beside mine this time. That's because I had help and inspiration from my friend Dave for the strips that will be posted in the next few weeks. Starting with today's strip I welcome you all to the fantastic adventures of Commander Witless - Space adventurer, starship captain and distant relative of Jason! Like the role playing game strips, this will be an occassional series of strips made to work out some of the sci-fi jokes and situations I have rattling around my head.
I would to say that next week's updates should go without a hitch and on time... but we all know where that kind of thinking gets us, so I shall just say check back Tuesday to find out what happens!
In other news, I have created an account on Deviant Art. It is there that I have decided to showcase a lot of the other digital art I work on besides Quackers. My work there has been given some praise, of which I am quite proud (given that some of the highly praised pictures were only quick tests!). To anyone who wishes to go look just click the following link to be taken to my profile page on Deviant Art with links to the gallery: lesmellor.deviantart.com
For those of you who have made your way over to see Quackers after seeing my work on DA, welcome! And I hope that you enjoy the comics on offer here.

16-06-2009

Alright, I'll admit it. I was a trifle optimistic in thinking that I'd be able to finish today's planned strip on time. Not that I didn't start it soon enough, but a few of the design issues got a little out of hand and there have been several things I've had to change here and there while creating it. The comic should be posted by the end of tomorrow, though, so please be sure to come back again then when you should be able to read what is the start of a new block of strips featuring a new, but slightly familiar character...

05-06-2009

*Phew!*
Apologies to everyone there for the delay this week. Things got a little out of hand and as Jason enjoys going overboard with his hi-jinks it made creating the strip all the more difficult and longer. Anyway, I hope the delay hasn't been too hard to take and I also hope you all enjoy the comic. The title "Big Finish" is rather apt as not only is it based around one of Jason's ambitions to be involved in a large musical number, but it is also the last strip before Quackers enters a short hiatus.
Yes, I'm taking a week off from the comic to catch up on some other things and to recharge my creative batteries. But never fear, we shall return on the 16th June (who can believe it's June already?!). There'll be some of your old favourites returning, plenty of new wacky adventures to share, and maybe a few new characters popping up. So, enjoy this week's strip, have a good week next week while we're all away, and we'll see you all again on the 16th!
(Now if I could only get that song out of my head...)

02-06-2009

After an unexpected trip away over the weekend, and a comic strip twice as long as usual (like last week), I'm afraid there's a delay to this week's strip. Apologies abound, but it should be up in the next two days.

26-05-2009

Wow, this has been a busy week! I've been struggling to get other artwork done, get used to using a new, more sensitive graphics tablet, taking part in multiple climbing activities (and gaining multiple injuries and boo-boos on the way), and also drawing one of the longest Quackers strips ever (if not actually the longest). The strip this week is twice as long as normal. I haven't had to work quite that hard for a strip for some time, but I feel it was worth it. It's certainly turned out to be one of my favourites, and hopefully you'll all enjoy it. Right now however I'm going to go scooch into a corner, curl up and lapse into a coma...

19-05-2009

There seems to be a touch of the crazies in the air this week. As usual Quackers isn't immune, as witnessed in this latest strip. It's a good job that we're all used to it by now, isn't it? It's just a quick one this week, but the next two weeks will be fairly large strips which should more than make up for that...
In other news, Telltale Games is celebrating it's fifth birthday with a special offer. The makers of episodic adventure games Sam & Max, Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People, and the newly launched Wallace and Grommit's Grand Adventures are offering up episodes of their games for the wallet-friendly amount of $5 each. 12-05-2009

I have to wonder why I torture myself like this sometimes. As much fun as I can have drawing backgrounds, I've always hated drawing buildings, especially houses. They're just no fun! And yet I decided to go ahead and add some for today's strip. Still, adding the distorted perspective at least helped to make it a little more enjoyable...

05-05-2009

I've had a sudden resurgence of creativity lately. Which is something I've felt that I've been lacking for a while. Sure I still have bouts of cantdrawfortoffeeitis and and a persistant proportionality disorder, but I'm getting used to the symptoms of those. Neither has stopped me from coming up with plenty of new ideas for strips and other projects over the last week or so (more of which will be mentioned sometime soon).
Someone else with bursts of creativity lately is Jason, who once again is driving Tom to distraction this week. At least he's consistent.

28-04-2009

So, you thought last week's strip was just a one-off? No one gets off that easily! Especially not Tom, by the looks of today's strip. As ever he has to face the brunt of Jason's shenanigans. It's a good job he's used to them by now... Here's hoping that he can hold out until next week for the next strip!

21-04-2009

The subject of today's strip is something that I often do to people I know. I say it's a healthy way of expressing my artistic side... The people on the receiving end of it aren't so sure. Either way it still amuses me to no end *evil grin*
For those few of you who are wondering, the role playing strips are back on a break for now (I didn't want to overdo it), but they will be back in several weeks' time.

14-04-2009

I have something of a love/hate relationship with Quackers. While I love making all these strips for you all to read, not to mention coming up with all the zany things that Jason and company get up to, there are times it really gets to be a pain. This last week has been one of those times. I've been looking forward to making this week's strip for a long time. No particular reason, I just thought it'd be fun to draw. Unfortunately I happen to be going through one of my 'can't even draw a straight line' phases. I know that Quackers hasn't got the most polished of styles, but there's just something about everything I've drawn this week that just looks a little... off. I wish I could put my finger on what, but as I can't it's been a most frustrating weekend that I've spent on the comic.
Anyhow, all griping aside, you can jump to the comic in question from here and make up your own minds about it. If nothing else I think that the joke has held up, even if the drawings haven't!

12-04-2009

Just a quick post today to say the traditional Quackers HAPPY EASTER to all our readers! And be sure to keep those chocolate eggs well hidden... Jason's a determined duck when he thinks there's chocolate to be had!

07-04-2009

Yes... Well, there's a comic strip that kind of got away from me. When I wrote this strip during the previous chapter of the role playing saga, it started out as such a simple idea. Somehow, over the year since I put the idea down on paper it seems to have grown of its own accord... Like mildew in the shower, or that one determined weed you have in the garden that just won't die. I know now that there are places where I could have trimmed it down and made it more streamlined, but by the time I figured out how to repace it I'd already drawn it. Considering how much effort it took to draw in the first place, not to mention how cramped my arm feels, I really didn't want to have to go back in and alter it all, which would also have meant missing the Tuesday deadline. So here it is in all it's unedited and overzealous glory! Just one more fantasy strip left and then we will be returning to our regularly scheduled Quackers insanity.

And 'WOOWHOO' for disproportionality! Name me another comic where you can find so many things that don't match up from panel to panel! (I swear I'll never know why I made Tom's antlers so simple looking, yet so incredibly difficult to get right). Actually, that sounds pretty much like the rest of my life, so why buck the trend? :D
Ooh, and before I forget; I also updated last week's strip because I wasn't too happy with it. Nothing major has changed, just the addition of some dialogue in the first panel I forgot to add at the last minute, and some simple shading changes.
(You might need to refresh your browser to see the changes)

31-03-2009

This week's strip is now up. I'm afraid things haven't been going so well around here lately, so this is just going to be a short post. But remember to drop by again next Tuesday to see the continuing adventures of Jason's role playing game!

25-03-2009

This week's strip has now been posted.
As mentioned last week, we see the return of Jason's role playing game. Due to the length of time since we last joined the group I felt I had to do a little re-cap with this latest strip. As such there's no real punch-line or specific gag this week, but I thought that I really had to explain how our heroes escaped the undead minions from the previous episode. Not to worry though as next week we'll return to the usual silliness.

24-03-2009

I'm afraid that due to the complexity of this week's strip (and that I'm a perfectionist about it), not to mention the lack of spare time I've had over the weeked, this week's strip will not be posted on time. There's not a lot left to finish, so the strip shall be posted tomorrow, but there's just no way I'll be able to upload it today. So please come back again tomorrow to see Jason once more donning his wizards' robes, picking up his wizards' wand and, yes, wearing that rediculous hat...

17-03-2009

This week is a bit special. Today's St Patrick's Day, this artist gets another year older in a couple of days and we also reach the end of the line for the story that's been playing out for the last few weeks. I decided to end the story with a little experimentation, as I like to do. Being such a departure from the Quackers norm (and being all in rhyme at that), I decided to try colouring it with a watercolour style. I'm not sure if I achieved that, but I'm pretty happy with the results. I hope you all at least enjoy the poem I concocted after my last bout of illness. you can see it by clicking here.
As I said above, this is the last of this storyline. So what's replacing it next week? For some it'll be a return to a much loved part of Quackers. For others, not so much... Either way, prepare yourselves, for after almost a whole year the Quackers team returns to their role playing game! That's right, break out the dice, snacks and silly hats, Quackers will be going all magic and fantasy for the next few strips. Don't worry though, it won't be going on for as long as last time... And there shouldn't be several months delay half way through, either! No, this time I've decided to keep it short, so this part of the story will last just four weeks. I just have so much other Quackers goodness to cram into this year I couldn't let the role playing game use it all up! The story will continue at various time throughout the year however, so keep with us.

10-03-2009

As usual it's all work, work, work around here. There's just never enough time to get everything I'd like done. Nevertheless I've been pretty productive over the last seven days. Not only have I managed to create and post this week's strip (which you can see here), but I've also managed to start rough drafts of two other pictures for people I know, get some photography done, and cram in a 40 hour work week... All in all not too shabby!
Oh, and I've also updated the Welcome page a little. A couple of the bios have had small additions and there are now more links to various archived strips. So if you feel like taking a trip through some of the old stories, why not take a look from there?
Now if you'll all excuse me, I'm going to go and collapse in a corner somewhere.

*thunk*

03-03-2009

Like most colds and flu, Tom's is persisting and refusing to budge this week. So much so he's having to resort to other forms of communication, which you can see here.
In other news I went climbing for the first time this weekend (after many, many weeks of persuasion by Dave!). Overwhelming terror and a vomit-inducing fear of heights aside, it wasn't so bad. It's something I think I'll try again, assuming I can keep the girly screaming and sobbing to a minimum... It does tend to distract the other climbers somewhat. Nevertheless, my experiences at the weekend have provided me with plenty of ideas for Quackers strips in the future, so that can only be a good thing. Now if only I could perfect a way of climbing without that whole going up tall walls and rock faces thing...

24-02-2009

The Academy Awards may have been announced the other night, but since when did that ever stop Jason from flexing his dramatic muscles? Maybe he'll be in with a chance for next year's awards? Anyway, clicking here will take you to this week's strip and the chance to see Jason's dramatic flare in action.

17-02-2009

Things continue to be problematic around here. Finishing off a pretty bad week was the demise of the wireless adaptor I rely on to get my desktop (my main work pc) online. Something of a problem when it comes to updating this website, as you can imagine. Despite all the things that have been going wrong in the last week, I've still been able to complete this week's strip and obtain a new wireless adaptor. Both of which mean that if you click here you'll be able to see that strip. This episode concludes the boiler breakdown story, but leads smoothly into the next series of strips starting next week.
The extra work I've been doing over the last couple of weeks has pretty much come to an end now, so assuming there are no more unexpected problems we should be updating as normal every Tuesday for now.

10-02-2009

And so with the posting of the latest strip we see that Jason and Tom are still suffering with boiler trouble. Once Jason 'tweaks' something, it stays tweaked! I thought I'd try making another episode that didn't rely on dialogue with this one. I kinda forgot how hard that can be, but I think it turned out ok (or at least I hope it did). And despite my misgivings last week about getting it posted on time I just managed it with minutes to spare! Next week however I think there will definitely be a delay in getting the next strip posted due to work commitments, so apologies in advance. Any delay should hopefully just be by one day, but I'll be posting updates to let you all know how things are going should it take longer than expected.

03-02-2009

This week's strip has been posted a tad later than normal, but it has now been posted. The next couple of weeks may see small delays similar to this week as my hours at work have increased temporarily. However I'll be doing my best to keep up with the usual Tuesday posting schedule. All being well our winter story will continue next week without incident.

27-01-2009

Not a lot to say this week. I haven't been having such a good time over the last few days, but neither, it seems, have a lot of people I know. I guess it's just something to do with the time of year, the weather and the fact no one has any money left. Either way, not even the Quackers team has escaped the winter blues as you can see from this week's strip. This is the start of another new storyline which will run for the next few weeks and taper into the next story after that. Plenty for us all to be going at until the end of February at least.

20-01-2009

Hello all. Here we again with the second half of the comic which started last week. High Definition is all well and good, but there can be downsides... as Jason and Tom find out.

In other news, over the last week I have managed - for the first time ever - to organise a schedule for upcoming Quackers strips. I thought that if I spent time now picking out which strips I wanted to get done out of the piles of ideas I have lying around, it would cut out a lot of that wasted time I have chosing each week. Might make things a little more streamlined (yeah, right). If nothing else it does mean that the next couple of months is all planned out and that assuming I have enough time to draw up the strips each week you'll have plenty more Quackers fun to look forward to!

13-01-2009

And we're back! Hello again to you all. Hope you didn't miss us too much while we were gone last week (well, I do hope you missed us, but in a good way).
We return this week with a new strip which you can see by clicking here. This was going to be a much longer strip, but I found that it worked out a little too long in it's original format, so I've broken it up into two strips. The second half will air next week, so be sure to keep an eye out for that.
This week's strip was inspired by my purchase of a new TV earlier in the year. Also by my friend Dave's purchase (and subsequent showing off) of a home projector, set up with a visible screen size of over one hundred inches wide... With some people it's all about the size, isn't it? ;)

Special thanks also go to one of my other friends, Mark "the Moose", who was kind enough to offer me his Wacom graphics tablet as a replacement for my excessively overused one. It's thanks to him that I was able to create this week's strip! And don't worry Moose, I will remember to get batteries for that iPod transmitter someday soon...

01-01-2009

Happy New Year everyone! And to celebrate here's our latest strip. I'm mostly happy with it, despite the pen of my graphics tablet finally giving out on me. Yes, after almost two years of pretty much daily use, the pen nib has been reduced to a teeny stump barely able to make a line. Despite the challenges of making digital art with barely functioning equipment I still enjoyed making the strip. It was fun coming up with something that didn't have any dialogue at all and just relied on expressions and sound effects. I've been waiting to draw this idea out for ages, and it's good to let something like that out of your head after a while :)
Quackers will be taking the week off next week, so there won't be a new strip I'm afraid. It's for a couple of reasons: first, to allow me time to recouperate after the Christmas period. Working in retail means it feels like it's been going on for months and I'm ready for a rest! The second reason is so that I'll have time to replace my over-used tablet pen and be ready to resume drawing more strips in the following weeks.

For now, enjoy today's strip, take a browse through the archives over the next week that I'll be away, and be sure not to break any New Year's resolutions too quickly! ;)

25-12-2008

Happy Holidays everyone! Join us next week on New Year's Day for a new, appropriately themed strip before the start of another new storyline.

24-12-2008

I think I went a little overboard with this week's strip... Took a tad longer to get done than thought as I didn't realise how much effort it'd take to make the interior of Santa Corp as I saw it in my head! I'm actually amazed it turned out pretty much as I'd imagined it, but even so I'm not planning on doing anything that intensive in the middle of a stressful week again in a big hurry! Anyway, enjoy, and Happy holiday to you all! Don't forget that (if my drawing hand holds out and I'm able to put my mind to it) there'll be an additional post tomorrow :D

16-12-2008

Part Four of Christmas Quackers has been posted and is now available for your viewing pleasure! Part Five will appear next week (for once I have plenty of time on which to work on it). And as next week is Christmas week, you'll also be getting an extra posting on Christmas Day, just because I'm feeling generous! So tune in next week to find out what happens in the thrilling conclusion!

16-12-2008

As expected this week's strip will air a little later than usual. Just an unavoidable side-effect of having too much work to do and not enough hours (or energy) in a day to get everything done. I shall be working hard to finish the strip for tomorrow night, so check back in then.

10-12-2008

Slightly delayed and all of one day late, here is Part Three of the Christmas story.
A couple of re-writes happened along the way as I was drawing out the strip, which is what caused some of the delay. I'm still not hugely happy with the way it turned out, but it still works as a good transition to the next strip which will be posted next week. Unfortunately I've got rather less time to work on things in the seven days which means that the next strip will probably not be posted on Tuesday as normal. If I'm not able to get the strip done in time I shall post an expected schedule here next week just so you guys are aware of how things are going. For now, have a good week!

05-12-2008

I tell you, I'll be glad when I finally get rid of this horrible cold. It's clinging on harder than a playful kitten to a piece of string. Seriously, have you ever tried to remove a kitten from a piece of string they think is a toy? Almost impossible!
Despite all the coughing and sniffling and other irritating cold related problems, I bring you Part Two of the Christmas Special! Part Three will follow next week. Until then, enjoy your weekend and come back Tuesday to see just what Jason has been getting up to!

01-12-2008

And so begins the Christmas fun here at Quackers! As mentioned yesterday, this strip will mark the start of the Charistmas storyline running throughout December. The second part will be arriving later this week before the weekend, so be sure to keep an eye out for that!

30-11-2008

So much for having just a little cold. Most of this week I have been feeling very poorly. I won't go into messy, sticky details, but I have found it rough going this week, especially during the stage in which I developed a fever. That was fun. Who knew the dreams I'd get while I was trying to sleep through the fever could possibly turn out to be crazier than those I normally have? (believe me, they're usually pretty weird)
The upshot of all this is that I've been totally unable to create the comic for this week in a timely manner. However I have been working on it, so all is not lost! The extra time in bed trying to keep my head from exploding off my shoulders did give me chance to come up with a good idea to kick of the Quackers Christmas Special! It was due to start next week and only be five parts long, taking us right up to Christmas Day, but now there is a new start bringing it up to six strips. In the last day or two - while I've been feeling marginally better - I have managed to get the lineart, inking and lettering finished. All that's left now is the colouring and final touches, which means it'll be on the site and ready to kick off the Christmas fun tomorrow, Monday 1st Dec! The second part (which was the one meant for this upcoming week) will be posted in a few days to help get things back into step again.
I'd like to say thank you all for your patience while the strip has been missing. As much as I like being in bed, it's no fun when your head feels like a hyperbaric chamber and food becomes your stomach's worst enemy. I hope you'll all stick with us through the next month's storyline and beyond into the new year when there'll be even more adventures awaiting!

24-11-2008

I'm sorry to say it, but this week's strip will not be posted tomorrow. I've come down with a rather nasty cold and I'm finding it almost impossible to concentrate on anything, let alone draw. I'll be attempting to get the strip posted by Thursday 27th, if this thing lets up. In the meantime I'm going to curl up with a warm blanket and a huge packet of tissues in the hope that I'll feel better soon.
See you all later in the week!

18-11-2008

I didn't think that I was going to get this week's strip posted any time soon after going through several re-writes, redesigns, and other things with 're-' at the beginning. It all seemed like such a good idea in the beginning. But then these things usually do when you're half asleep and haven't had any coffee yet. And as ever with something like this the more I looked at it the more unhappy I was with the layout, the pacing... the jokes in general. But I managed to come through in the end, and on the right day, too! If you click here you can see the strip that has been causing me so much greif!

11-11-2008

All I'm hearing at work at the moment is how there's no money for this, and no money for that... People aren't buying things because of the 'Credit Crunch' (sounds like an accountant's breakfast cereal). Today's strip was inspired by such stuff. It is also dedicated to those people who feel the need to share their life history with me whenever they decide to actually splash out and buy something. Please, when you're buying a video game the last thing I need to hear about is how big your family is and what presents you're going to buy each and every one of them... If nothing else it just reminds me that I've yet to do any Christmas shopping!

05-11-2008

It's Bonfire Night (Guy Fawkes Night) here in the UK. A night when bonfires will be lit, fireworks ignited, toffee apples eaten and people will freeze as the weather takes a decidedly cold turn. I do enjoy fireworks. All the colours, the fascinating shapes and patterns the sparks create as they explode in the atmosphere... Shame I'm going to be working inside this year. I'm not the only fan of fireworks though, as Jason loves them as well. Only he finds them a little more exciting than most people, as you can tell from this week's strip. At least no one got hurt... At least not seriously.
And remember kids (obligatory safety warning alert!), don't play with fireworks, they're not toys! Leave the swearing, shouting and running backwards and forwards to the adults as they try time and again to light the rain-damp touch-paper with that pathetic little lighter thing.

03-11-2008

And so here is the final part of the Halloween Special. I know it's not Halloween anymore, but why should that stop us? I've had a rather horrendous weekend with no spare time at all, and with the tradition of things going wrong at this time of year it was only inevitable that the overly ambitious Special would get delayed.
Regardless, it's been a fun experience creating this story. I got to put a few techniques to the test and it was nice to throw in a new character, even if it was Death personified! Next up, Guy Fawkes Night themed goodness. Come back on Wednesday 5th to see it!

29-10-2008

I'd forgotten how mad and busy this time of year was. As much as I'd have liked to have this comic posted yesterday, there was just no way that was going to happen! Not just a lack of time, but an overrall lack of energy and concentration didn't help. Nevertheless, it's here now. Time is still tight for this weekend though, so I'm afraid the conclusion to this gripping story will probably not make it onto the site until Saturday night, or more likely Sunday morning. I do feel really bad about it, but it is a biggish strip and won't be easy to do. Gives you all something to look forward to though! Next week we'll be having a Guy Fawkes Night Themed episode (and not a V for Vendetta reference in sight!).
Until I post again, I hope you all have a good and scary Halloween! :D

29-10-2008

Here is the next installment of the Halloween special. I really can't stop myself sometimes. Despite wanting to cut down on some detail so that I could keep up with the release schedule I'd set myself, I still managed to spend far too long making the strip look something like the last one. At least it didn't take as long for me to do this time...
And for those that are curious, yes those are the characters proper names (as proven by the updated cast bios). I'd been looking for a way to work their names into a strip for some time. I was originally planning to have Tom blackmail Jason with the threat of revealing his full name, but in the end I found it fit quite well into this storyline. But as I came up with the idea several months ago it's been tough keeping them from certain people (and all of you) for so long. But I know that at least one person will be releaved to finally know the names of both Tom and Jason!
Keep a watch on this site later in the day as I will be working feverishly to get the next strip up here before the end of the day!

As promised here is the third installment of our Halloween story. Not so big this time with just a quick joke, but there is still a lot more to come in the next few days! The next part is yet another short one which I should be able to have finished and posted by tomorrow night (work permitting). After that the finale will probably be posted on Saturday. While Friday would have been good, I'm a little short of time, so we will have to wait and see how things turn out.
On another note, if anyone out there has any comments about the strips, or if there's something you'd like to ask, or even if you just want to say hi, you can now do so via email. Just head to the Contact page and jot down the email address then post away! (just remember, Jason is sensitive, so try not to scare him with risqué posts!)

27-10-2008

Welcome, dear readers to the first of this year's Halloween specials, entitled 'A Grim Predicament'! Also known as 'It's Grim, of Course!', or 'Just Look At The Scythe Of That!'. Thanks to the Moose for help with naming this special, and for all the alternate names we managed to come up with as well :D
Despite my best laid plans - as ever - things are running behind and while I'm determined to get all the strips up this week, there may be a slight delay with tomorrow's installment due to being at work all day. Check back tomorrow to see if part two of the story is up, if not it will be up early Wednesday, with Wednesday's strip following later in the day.
I've spent a very, very long time on today's strip, so hopefully it shows and that you all enjoy it. I wanted to try a different look for the Halloween story, so went with the appearance of more traditional art mediums. I thought it helped with the atmosphere of the strip. It took forever to do though, so I might have to be a little less thorough with the rest. I apologise for that as I'd have liked to have it all consistent, but sometimes you have to go with what you can get done at the time.

My trip to see Video Games Live in London went a lot smoother than last year. We didn't have any problems with the hotel, we managed to find our way around, I didn't forget the tickets and it didn't rain (at least not while we were outside). Some things were a bit of a let-down (the Nintendo pre-show activities for one, where NoE still insists on hiring non-Nintendo people to show demo products they know nothing about), but the show itself was brilliant again. It's certainly becoming a must-see event for me, so I'll be back there again next year when they return to London... As well as to any other performances I can get to see! Unfortunately my camera wasn't playing that night, so I don't have much in the way of pictures from this year's event. But I'll let you guys know when I post the few I do have - which include a brilliant Master Chief costume from the cosplay competition - on flickr later in the week.

21-10-2008

Here is another Halloween related comic. At least in so far as it features a horror movie. Ah, there's nothing like sitting back in the dark with your popcorn and friends to watch an old classic horror film... Except for pointing out all the plot holes, continuity errors and other mistakes throughout the whole thing! :)
Next week shall be the Halloween Specials I've been promising (assuming I can get past sketching them and get around to inking them properly at some point). After that things will return to their not so spooky routine.
And while one of the games (LittleBigPlanet) I've been looking forward to buying recently has been delayed over one lisenced song, this Friday I shall be in London to see Video Games Live, so that more than makes up for it. While there we'll have the chance to play on Guitar Hero World Tour before it's released here, and no doubt be able to make a complete and utter fool of myself in the process should I be able to make it past the crowds. I'm getting pretty excited about the trip now as this morning I received the t-shirt I'm going to be sporting while down there. A nice, new Quackerswear shirt featuring everyone's favourite duck!. Hopefully it'll help create some interest in the site and get us a few more visitors. I mean it's surprising how noticable you are when you're walking around with a giant cartoon duck on your shirt...

14-10-2008

Despite taking several blows to my artistic talent (or possible lack of) this week, I still managed to produce this strip. Self-doubts about my drawing ability aside, I decided to start the Halloween themed stuff a little early this year. If nothing else it's getting me geared up for the Halloween special I have lined up a couple of week from now. For the whole week leading up to Halloween I'm planning on uploading a strip a day! I spoil you people sometimes :)

07-10-2008

The way Jason has been feeling in this strip is pretty much how I've been feeling for the last week or two. Sleep has become a bit of a stranger around here, and caffeine my best friend! Despite the possible sources of comic fodder that might arise from this, the situation doesn't really help the creative process much when your brain is on hiatus and the rest of you is running on automatic. But you never know, I might be able to scrape some relevant gags together once I eventually get myself some sleep!

01-10-2008

Ooh, look, filler! The lack of time I've had in the last week means it's just a short comic this time. Along with the art block I had through most of last week my inspiration has been a little low. I might be able have something a little lengthier next week, so be sure to come back Tuesday to see how I do!

25-09-2008

So here it is. I did say that I'd manage to get the strip up today (even if there's not much of today left).
I'm sorry to say that due to work commitments next week the next strip shall also see a delay. I'm planning to have it posted on Wednesday, so it's not too long to wait. Hope you can all contain your excitement!

23-09-2008

Ok... So as much as I'd like to have had a new strip to post today, it's not happening I'm afraid. I've had a terrible mental block for most of this week, so I've not been able to come up with a new strip. At least not yet. I've had a few ideas start to germinate, even though it's taken a whole day of thinking about. Hopefully that means that while today is a bust, I should be able to get something posted here this week, so don't give up on me yet! Assuming I can finalise an idea today (hey, I still have a few hours of thinking time left!), and taking into account my schedule for the rest of the week, I'm going to attempt to have something finished by Thursday. Fingers crossed! So, drop by in two days time to see what it is I managed to come up with.

In the meantime, for those of you who managed to see the easter egg in last week's post (simply click the word 'horrendous' in the second paragraph), you'll probably have been curious about the creature Jason made in his game of Spore. If so, click here, and here to see what it looked like! (Alright, so I couldn't resist building it after coming up with the drawing... After all, who could?)

17-09-2008

The latest Quackers strip didn't turn out to be the breeze of a one-off that I'd hoped for. But then, when does it ever? My old enemy Artistic Block arrived soon after completing the sketch phase of the comic. After that I found that for a couple of days after I was completely unable to draw anything resembling more than a badly rendered scribble. While I'm still not 100% happy with the result, the finished comic still conveys what I wanted, so I hope you all still enjoy it. The art block also explains why it was a day late.
As for not posting news of the update, I'm afraid that was just down to bad timing on my part. I managed to get the strip finished before I had to head off for work, but then found I didn't have time to write up this news post or the RSS update! Life has a sick sense of humour that way.

During my bout of undrawingness I've been busy playing Spore on the PC. It's been a long time since I was this engaged by a game in general, least of all a PC game! There's just something about sticking together random limbs, appendages and sensory organs to build your own creature that's somehow very satisfying... No matter how horrendous it might turn out. I have my workmate Dave to thank for introducing me (and almost anyone else he's been in contact with) to it way back while it was still in development. Having had the creature creator since it was released he's become quite adept at making a variety of animals. I'm not so talented yet, but I have been able to recreate a Spore version of both Jason and Tom! Yes, Quackers gets everywhere.
For those of you who have the game and want to add Jason and Tom to your galaxies, simply run a search in Sporepedia for Sponge2292 (don't ask, there's a long story behind that nickname). That will bring up a list of all the creations I've come up with so far, as well as letting you subscribe to the Quackers Sporecast. For anyone else who's interested, check out the Spore widget below to see what I've built so far!

09-09-2008

Here it is then, the last comic in the storyline of Samuel and Bradley. Not a bad run for what was supposed to just be a one-shot idea.
If I'm able to I'm going to try to stick to some unlinked one-shot comics over the next couple of weeks or so. Mostly just to give me time to work on some of the upcoming ideas I've got floating around in my head at the moment. One of them is finally returning to the Role Playing Game we last saw running way back in April. Who knew it'd been that long ago?! I've been wanting to resume it for a while, but it's quite hard work to create, so I've been kind of putting it off. But I do have a little something special planned for the week running up to Halloween this year, so I'm going to have to work around that as well. Sometimes I think I spoil you guys :)

02-09-2008

I'm getting close to wrapping up the storyline involving Samuel and Bradley. So close that today's strip is actually the penultimate one before moving onto new ideas! Don't be too sad though, I'm sure that sometime in the future there could possibly be more appearances by the sink dwelling duo!

19-08-2008

It's been quiet around here over the last week. That's something of a good thing I guess as I've not really been up to doing much. Between a lack of sleep and a sneaking suspicion that I've caught a cold, I've not been feeling 100%. Good thing I've got some time off coming up soon!
Anyway, despite my current unenthusiastic attitude, here is the latest strip. It's only a short one, but I thought it might help answer a question some people would have had over the last few strips... I know it's something that confused me for a while!

19-08-2008

Things continue to get stranger as Jason continues chatting with Samuel. Obviously Jason had forgotten just how long it's been since he last did the washing up.
I'm sure many of you will be suprised to see an update appearing on time for once. I know that I was. My weeks continue to be quite busy, but despite this I think there's a good chance I may be updating on time next week as well. Something to look forward to, assuming I've not just jinxed it by saying that...
Even though I've been busy I did get chance to see the X-Files movie at the weekend. I was a fan of the show during the first half of its run, although lost the thread in the later years as my spare time was eaten up and I missed more and more episodes. Even so, I was interested in seeing this new film to see how things had been moved on from the series. I did think it was a good film. Although as my friend Dave said, it "needed more 'X' and less 'Files'." Aside from the moments of emotional exposition between Mulder and Scully, the rest of the film played like a standard FBI thriller, with a slight supernatural twist. It certainly worked well as a stand alone extended monster-of-the-week episode of the series, but a little more could have been done on the supernatural element. Credit needs to go to Billy Connolly though. It wasn't until after the film had ended that it dawned on me; I'd never once thought of him as anything other than his character throughout the whole thing. Not an easy thing for an actor to achieve as normally we're all usually comparing their performance to other things they've done in the past.
Overall the film, and especially the script, was quite understated. It kept the whole thing naturalistic (at least as much as you can with a story about the supernatural) and I think that was a good thing. If the script and story had been more grandiose I think things would have degenerated into a more over-the-top affair which would have ruined the return of Mulder and Scully. If you enjoy the X-Files, I'd say go and see it. The same applies if you like FBI/crime stories. Just don't expect aliens or googly eyed monters to pop up unexpectedly... at least not this time.

13-08-2008

This week sees a return of the sink creature from last week's strip. A bit of a surprise for some people as well as myself to be honest. Despite being just a one-shot character, I somehow seemed to have come up with several strip's worth of material for him. Yes, that means he'll be appearing in the next few strips!
I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get the strip finished this week as I've not been too well. I've been feeling pretty sick over the last couple of days, but I still managed to struggle by with work and Quackers. Thankfully I've been a lot better today which has helped me to get this update done.
Something else that's made me feel better is that after months of waiting, a performance date for the Video Games Live concert has been announced for London today. I've managed to get some tickets booked for the performance, which has made me quite happy. I really enjoyed seeing the show last year and I'm hoping that it's just as good this time around. Although hopefully things will run a little smoother this year. Such as being able to leave the hotel without forgetting the tickets, and Thames Water not cutting off the water supply to the hotel I'll be staying at... No matter what happens though, I'm still looking forward to a good weekend away and a great night out!

07-08-2008

It's just one thing after another with some people, and after the horror that was Tom's cooking, Jason now must face the washing up! It's a chore I've always hated myself and Jason shares my dislike of it. But go too long without doing it and not only do you quickly run out of things to eat from, but there might be some other unexpected side effects as well. Something Jason is going to find out in this week's strip...

06-08-2008

Despite my best efforts, this last week hasn't offered me up as much time as I would have liked to work on Quackers. Don't worry though, there is still going to be a strip this week, but it will be tomorrow when it appears. I've managed to get a lot of it done in the precious little time I've had available. With tomorrow dedicated to nothing but drawing it shouldn't be long before you see the finished product on here!

30-07-2008

I don't really have anything to say today, so I shall keep it short and sweet and simply point you all in the direction of the latest strip... Right here!

25-07-2008

This week has been something of a trying week. Not a lot seems to have gone right at all from the moment I woke up on Monday morning. Nevertheless I have (eventually) managed to finish off the next installment, which you can see by clicking here.
I wasn't happy with several parts of the strip as I was working on them, and I've been tweaking them throughout the entire creation process this week. That added to some of the delay in getting it finished. One line in particular gave me great trouble and has taken me right up to the last few minutes to get just right. Here's hoping that next week will be a little easier to get through. If not I think I may just go insane... Ok, more insane.

22-07-2008

Alright then, so it was kind of inevitable that this week's strip wasn't going to appear on time. Despite starting it last week on my holiday, it's another biggy that's taking time. My drawing ability seems to have gone a bit squiffy today as well, which isn't helping. I won't be able to work on it tomorrow, but it's getting my full attention for the whole of Thursday, so look for it appearing on here then. In the meantime, here's a preview of it. What has Jason found that's eased his lunch-time panic? Just what on earth has Tom brought in from the kitchen? For the answers to these and other unfathomable questions, tune in Thursday!

20-07-2008

My holiday is over now and it's back to work in the morning (boo). It also means that today sees the last of the sketch-a-day thingy I've been doing.
A couple of weeks ago I was randomly flicking through Wikipedia and found something about the national birds of different countries (there's a list here). Browsing through I found out that Austria and Germany both have the Golden Eagle as their national bird. And the rather happy looking Turquois-browned Motmot is the national bird of El Salvador. Checking up on the UK I found that we have... the Robin. Now, while I have nothing against Robins at all, it did get me thinking that we needed an avian mascot a little more suited to how things are in this country. All the rain and damp that we have here led me and my friends to think that a duck would be a better choice (not that I have an obssession with them or anything). It was that which gave me the idea for this final sketch. I'm now thinking of getting a petition together to have Jason put forward to raplace the robin as our National Bird.
I'll be back to updating the comic as usual next week, so that means more Quackersy goodness (after who knows how many unexpected delays and problems!). Look back to us around Tuesday to see how things are going with Jason and Tom!

19-07-2008

Another brief entry today. Haven't had a lot of time to work on a lot after hurting my back this morning. Thankfully it wasn't anything serious, but I did manage to pull all the muscles in my lower back, so standing was painful... As was sitting... Aaaaand walking... Mostly just moving in general felt like hurt. I'm not too bad at the moment, although I'm excpecting to be more than a little stiff tomorrow!
Anyway, I was eventually able to get myself around to coming up with and drawing this little sketch. Jason getting all up close and personal with nature. He's never been afraid to make new friends, even if they are tiny in comparison. One more sketch tomorrow and then it's back to the old routine!
Huh, would you look at that... Not such a short entry after all.

18-07-2008

Time for another sketch! This one is a little rough around the edges (and in the middle, and the top, and the sides...). It was going to be a little more lavish, but I found myself getting far too carried away with it and so went back to basics with it.
There's still two more days left of this week, so that means two more sketches to go!

17-07-2008

Thursday arrives and so does our fourth sketch! This time it's the the rest of Jason and Tom's gang, and they're at the cinema. This sees the return of the fabled Barrel-O-Popcorn, last seen in January of last year. My, how things have changed since then! Jason's certainly looking a lot healthier and less stick-like...
I know that I promised that there'd be some changes appearing along with the sketch today, but I'm afraid it's not so for the moment. After starting out with them last night I got to planning and it seemed there was a lot more to do than I first thought. Not only are there quite a few drawings to come up with (albeit small ones), there's more coding to be done on a lot of pages to make what I want happen. Nothing too major, but there's been a lot of fiddling about today trying to get things to work. So, at the moment, no changes. But they'll be here soon, once I figure out exactly how I want things to look. For now I'll see you again tomorrow for yet another sketch!

It's day Three of my sketch a day thingy! Due to popular request... ok, due to one request - we have a sketch of Scruffy the dinosaur, ready to be spoiled with belly-rubs and attention, as all pets should be. It's been a while since he was around in the strips, so it's nice to see that he's still around and being his usual dinosaury self.
I'm hoping that if I'm able to get myself in gear to do some coding I can get a move on with some of the things for the website today. I should be fine as long as I don't encounter too many distractions... If I do manage to get some of these things done I might even have some of them uploaded tonight! Of course it's more likely I'll do it tomorrow when I post the next sketch, but we shall see!

15-07-2008

Another day, another sketch. Just a random one this time of Jason in some kind of mad scientist moment. From what I can tell he has quite a few of those when no one appears to be looking...
I really wasn't able to come up with a suitable solution for linking to these daily sketches, so you'll have to make do with the links in my daily updates. However, after this week I'll move them into the comic graveyard for you all to look at whenever you want to.
One thing I have done today is sit and watch the Media conferences of both Microsoft and Nintendo at E3. Being a keen gamer I'm always interested to see what comes out of these keynote events each year, so I was looking forward to hearing what the big companies would be offering up this time. I managed to slog my way through the video downloads of Microsoft's conference, which on my slow connection is no mean feat! However I was sorely disappointed. There was really nothing new mentioned over what most of us have already heard about in the last few months, not really any new games announced outside of one or two casual games and some XBLA software. All in all a bland event.
Next up was Nintendo's conference, which I watched as a live stream over the internet. It was certainly more interesting that MS' event, but still nothing spectacular. The revelation of a microphone attachment for the Wii (called Wii Speak, which sits neatly on top of the sensor bar) was interesting enough as it means real-time communication in games would be possible. And then there was the announcement of more Wii-branded games in the form of Wii Sports Resort (beach games) and Wii Music, which finally debuted a proper demo. Other than that it was still pretty bland.
I was going to watch the Sony conference, but I'm not sure I can keep up with all the excitement coming out of E3 at the moment, so I think I'm going to make dinner instead. I may just download the keynote tomorrow and watch it then, if I can stay awake through it...
There'll be another sketch tomorrow, so be sure to visit again!

14-07-2008

Hello all!
Even though I'm on holiday at the moment, and although I did say that I'm not going to update the comic strip this week, I did mention that the site wouldn't be silent. So, true to my word I bring you the first of a few things! Today sees the start of some holiday sketching. I thought I'd bring you one a day for the duration of my holiday so that there'd be something to see here. To have a peek at the first of my sketch a day sketches - which features our favourite pirate, Captain Witless - click right here. I'll try and come up with a fancy button or something for these tomorrow. The rest might not be as extravegant as today's, I just got a little carried away...
Remember to check back here again tomorrow to see the next sketch!

After getting close to completing this week's strip last night found myself constantly unhappy with the way it was turning out. While the actual line art was fine I just couldn't seem to get the colouring to look satisfactory. I attempted to alter it several times, but just couldn't find the right balance and so decided to sleep on it. Today I've managed to rectify those problems and so you're all now able to see the finished product!
I suppose the problem I was having had just as much to do with my perfectionism than any real problem with the strip, but I really did want to make sure that I could get it as legible as possible with a colour scheme that didn't hide too many details. And while I hate posting a strip as late as I have this week, I'd still rather deliver a strip that was complete, looked good and worked than a half finished scribbly mess.

I'm afraid that next week the comic will be on holiday. That's not to say that the site will be quiet during that time. As I'm off work for the week I'm taking the time to work on a few things for the site. Mostly it's a few things to help brighten the site up a bit, but if I'm able to I might even add a couple of extra features! Although that's all dependant on how long those might take and my ability to program them into the site's code. I'll be adding some news posts here as I go along next week, so for those of you who decide to pay us a visit, I'll see you then!

This week has been pretty awful so far. Builders knocked out our water supply for several hours Monday. I can tell you it's no fun going to work when the only water you have available to clean yourself up with is what little has been left in the kitchen taps! That was follwed by unexpected changes in my schedule which has taken up silly amounts of my time. Anyway what all this amounts to is - surprise, surprise - a late posting for this week's strip.
The strip I've been working on has turned into a longer project than I anticipated despite the lack of time I've been able to spend on it. From conception to inking it's grown as I've thrown more ideas into it. It's ended up with eleven panels after starting out with only seven. Four panels might not sound much, but many comics only get by on three or four panels, so it can become a lot of work! It has also turned out to be one of the more cartoon-like episodes of Quackers. More so than usual at least. Comic and cartoon physics play a large part this time as does Jason's ability to create a variety of strange, yet descriptive facial expressions. Who knew a beak would turn out to be so flexible?
I'm currently in the process of colouring the strip now that I have completed the inking phase. I'm hoping this part won't take too long as this episode doesn't feature much in the way of backgrounds, just characters. With any luck (although I'm not really sure I have a lot of that at the moment) I should have it all finished tonight, work permitting. In the meantime you can see a little preview by clicking right here.

01-07-2008

Well the new strip is up. Not as quickly as it could have been, but that was due to an abrupt thunderstorm. After the down time I suffered when a lightening strike knocked out my router last time a storm happened that quick I wasn't taking any chances this time! At least I'm learning, even if it takes a month of no internet to get it to sink in...
Observant readers will notice that Jason is allowed to play video games again. His over zealous uptake of role playing games proved that his self-imposed abstinence of video gaming wasn't really going to calm him down at all. Still, this does mean he's got a lot of games to catch up on, which will keep him quiet for a while... Maybe.

30-06-2008

You all know what I'm going to put here before I write it, don't you? That's right, no comic update until tomorrow. At the moment I'm considering making it a permanent thing to have the update on Tuesdays instead of Mondays as this is likely to continue for the foreseeable future. The final decision about this will be taken in the next couple of weeks before (what I hope will be) a week of from work. In that week I'll be trying to incorporate a few new things into the site that I've been wanting to do, but not had the time to work on. The site is overdue for an overhaul and a facelift.
You guys know the drill then. Make your way back here tomorrow when you'll be able to see the next thrilling, action-packed and visually stunning episode of Quackers! Or at the very least you'll get to see Jason pulling a few funny faces, but either way it's a result!

24-06-2008

Whoo! And so that's another strip done with. It's tough getting these strips done with the hours I've been putting in at work, but I'm starting to get used to it. Well, again there's not a lot for me to add today except that clicking here will take you to the strip in question. Other than that, I shall see you all in a week with the next comic update :)

23-06-2008

Yes, I'm afraid it's another one of those weeks when the Monday update will have to become a Tuesday update. Not a lot to add at this point, but if you turn up here again tomorrow there'll be a brand new strip to read.

18-06-2008

It's finally finished, and the end result can be seen here. I'm glad I was able to make this strip at last. It's one I've wanted to draw for a few months. I just wish it hadn't taken so long! I did have a lot of fun creating it though, especially when it came to some of Jason's more eccentric looks. Drawing a moose splayed out on the floor is not the easiest of things to draw though...
More to come next week. I won't promise the next comic will be ready by Monday this time, but I will definitely be keeping you guys posted on things. I will announce when it is due once I'm able to get close to finishing it. Hopefully I'll be able to schedule my time a little better this time!

17-06-2008

By the Great Llama, has it only been a week (and one day) since the last update? Feels like I haven't been here in a month, let alone 8 days. Putting in all these extra hours in at work has really stripped me of the time and energy I've needed to produce the next comic strip, which I know I had promised to have uploaded on here today. The strip has extended a few panels beyond what I had originally intended it to be, which has slowed progress down a little. But I have to admit that the release of Metal Gear Solid 4 has also played a part in keeping me from updating. I'm a fan of the series and I've been looking forward to this installment for a long time. Playing it has eaten up even more of my spare time (bad comic artist, naughty!). Nevertheless, I am committed to getting the next strip out by the end of tomorrow, no matter what! So I hope you will join me here again tomorrow to read the long-overdue comic and berate me on my laziness.
On an unrelated matter, it was the birthday of a particular moosey friend of mine at the weekend, and I'd just like to say happy birthday to him once again. So, ummm, Happy Birthday! :)

09-06-2008

It's the last one, I swear! No really, this is the last strip with a Star Wars reference in it. OK, so it's the last one for a while. No doubt I'll manage to cram the odd reference in here or there in the future when no one's paying attention... Next week you'll all find out just how far Jason has to go to satiate his need for blueberry muffins!
The next two or three weeks will be busy ones for me as I've picked up some extra hours at work. Good news for me as I get some more cash, not so good news for the comic as it means some delays are likely. While I'll endeavour to maintain the Monday updates, as with the previous couple of weeks you may find some strips appearing on Tuesdays instead. If this is the case I shall, of course, be letting you all know right here on this page and via the RSS feed.

03-06-2008

Well here it is, the comic you've been waiting for. I'm afraid there are no special prizes for knowing which scene in which film the inspiration for today's strip comes from, but kudos go to you for being as geeky as me :)
See you all next week for another dose of Quackers craziness on Monday!

02-06-2008

Another week goes by and, true to my word last week, the next strip will be arriving tomorrow. There's not a lot left to do on it, so you should be able to see it before the end of the day. Things are calming down a little at work now, so there's a good chance that next week's comic should be posted on time on next Monday, which is worth a bucket full of yay if you ask me! So I hope you will all join me here again tomorrow for the arrival of the next strip, after which let's hope the schedule will be getting back into some kind of normality.

27-05-2008

Today's strip (now that it's been posted) is a little celebration of Star Wars. I did the comic partly as the original film has just passed it's 31st anniversary and cos it fits in ok with recent strips. I also did it just because it's fun drawing Darth Vader! (not to mention little dancing stormtroopers!)
Work has been tough and it's going to be another long and busy week. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, it's looking ever likely that the next strip will be posted next Tuesday instead of the usual Monday update. Be sure to check back then and I'll do what I can to have the next strip ready!

26-05-2008

As with last week I've been a little short on time and haven't been able to finish off the latest strip for it's regular Monday update. However, again like last week, I should be able to have it finished up and posted by the end of tomorrow. The way things are looking this might be the case for the next couple of weeks, so I would suggest to you all to expect the next couple of strips to appear on those Tuesdays instead of Mondays. Either way I shall still post a news update on here to let you all know what's happening.
Be sure to come back tomorrow to see the new strip.

21-05-2008

Just a little update today. If you take a look at the comic graveyard, you'll see a couple of new entries. Both the picture announcing the arrival of Quackers at it's new home, and the one which (briefly) graced the old site before it closed down have been posted there. Click away and have a browse!

20-05-2008

Well here we are, ladies and gentlemen, ducks, mooses and assorted creatures, the new strip is up and ready for reading! Took longer than I thought it would, so the update to the scraps section will have to take place tomorrow (sooooo many delays, I'm so sorry!). In the meantime, I'm about ready for collapsing into bed, so if you'll excuse me, I'll do just that...
*fwump*

19-05-2008

Just a little heads-up. Recently I've been managing to update regularly on Mondays, but this week work and other things have stolen away more of my Quackers work time than I expected. This means that the latest strip will be delayed. Although it's only a little delay. The strip itself has been drawn out and all that's left to do now is the colouring, which I shall be doing tomorrow. I'll be posting the strip as soon as I finish it, so be sure to pop back here again tomorrow to see it!
Oh, and for those of you wondering what's happened to the 'New Home' picture that adourned this page all last week, it's gone for now, but from tomorrow it'll be posted in the comic graveyard for you all to look at whenever you want.

14-05-2008

So, finally after all this time, Quackers has moved into it's new abode here at quackerscomic.com! As the paint dries and the last few bits of furniture are put into place I'd like to say welcome to you all. If you're new here, I hope that you'll have a good look around and will find something here that will bring you back again in the future! If that's the case then don't forget that you can subscribe to the RSS feed at the top of the page to find out exactly when Quackers recieves an update. To those of you who were visitors to our previous site you'll probably not notice anything's changed, but in the next few weeks I'm hoping to have a bit of a spring clean here and alter a few things. Nothing major (I'm certainly not that good at writing HTML), but just a few things to spruce up the site now that it's settling into it's new home.
I'd like to say thanks to several of my friends at this point. First is André for being the one to front up cash to make this site possible, and for hosting the new address. Then there is the Moose, whose critical eye let's me know if Quackers isn't Quackersy enough. And then there's Dave, who gets me to use up the remainder of any free time I have by encouraging me to draw (very) random things, especially if they involve a gecko. Thanks to you all :D

12-05-2008

The weather has finally started to warm up here in the UK, meaning that it's actually quite nice to stand outside without the fear of being rained on, snowed on, or blown half way across the country by gale-force winds. Not that the warmer weather suits everyone around here, but at least some of us appreciate it.
Today's strip was - as mentioned last week - going to be just a random one-off. However, after rummaging through a lot of the scripts and sketches for things I have planned in the future, I found that it tied in well with some of them. While they don't form a storyline, they do link together well, so that'll keep me occupied for the next few weeks and means I won't be scrabbling around for what to draw next. In the meantime I have a lot of other things to do as well. Like finishing commissions, adding some new finishing touches to this site, practicing different art techniques, watching the stack of DVDs that have been unwatched, start reading a new book or two, finishing all those games that just seem to sit there and demand playing... Good job I seem to have some free time lately!

05-05-2008

It's the May Bank Holiday today here in the UK. As well as a day off for everyone, it's a day when we all get to relax in the knowledge that at the first sign of sunlight we'll all rush outside with a cold drink in hand, barbeque all aglow (or engulfed in flames, as we're not good at outdoor cooking here) to enjoy the start of the warmer weather... Then promptly get soaked as said weather inevitably turns and it starts raining heavier than in a monsoon season. But we're British, so we're used to that, and we'll still stand in the garden, insisting that "It'll clear up soon!" until we all get so wet we start to rust. Not that everyone's off work. My condolences to my colleagues stuck at work serving the needs of those of us who are off and still insist on going shopping. Tough break *snigger* ;)
Anyhoo, now that the role playing game is on hold I decided to start the new set of strips off with a little bit of random silliness. Something that Quackers can do quite well! There'll be a couple of these kind of filler strips before I crank out another storyline, just to help break things up a bit, so I hope you all look forward to the next silly episode!

21-04-2008

Ladies and gentlemen, Quackers has been updated and you can now find the next part of the role playing game story by clicking here. In news that will upset some, relieve others and probably not bother the rest of you either way, that will be the last entry in the RPG storyline for a little while. The cast and I are taking a little break from their costumed antics in order to allow some regular strips to take their place. You see, after running through the plan for the story I realised that I had around another 30 strips before they reached the end, meaning the story wouldn't end until sometime around Christmas! I really wouldn't want you all to get bored of them too quickly, and there are also many other strips and stories I would like to take a crack at and produce this year. But don't you worry, the Quackers RPG team will be back, and with even more mind-boggling adventures! Until then I hope you will look forward to the other things I have in store for the near future which include Jason's attempt at botany, how the gang have to deal with a rodent problem, and Jason's ever growing fascination with blueberry muffins... Stay tuned! :D

21-04-2008

Not quite a couple of days, but the next installment of our current story is now up. I'm quite enjoying drawing these strips at the moment, even with the extra time it's taken to do all the details which have been added. I can only hope that you are enjoying reading them as well! The team are still engaged in battle at the moment, as they will be for the next strip, which should give you something to look forward to. As I have a lot more free time this week than I've had recently I'm hoping that I can kick out the next part of the story for the end of the weekend. In the meantime if I manage to come up with any other little sketches and things I shall post them here for you all as well. See you soon!

18-04-2008

It's been a very busy week around here. Work and commissions and lots of other things seem to have conspired to eat up all my time, but today I finally get to start the next strip for the ongoing Quackers storyline! I'm hoping that I might be able to get that up here on the site by the end of Sunday, but we'll have to see how things go. On the bright side, work on the commissions I'm doing at the moment are going well. With a little luck I should be able to have those finished in the near future and then move onto the next project. And no, Dave, the next project is not me joining World of Warcraft! At least not for a couple of weeks... ;)
But of course it's not just commissions stealing away my time. Season four of Battlestar Galactica just premiered over here this week and is something I've been looking forward to for quite a while. Better still we got the first two episodes back to back, so it was double the geeky sci-fi goodness!
Gaming has taken something of a backseat lately, although I've still found a little sliver of time to play the recently released Mario Kart, on which I've had quite a bit of fun. Still can't get to grips with the motorbikes though... The online features seem to be working well (despite some cheating going on with the Time Trails), but I've yet to try a vs match against a friend.
So finally at the end of this little update I bring you the filler material I promised last week. As the next strip is still some days away I've compiled some of the doodles I produced to warm up before tackling other arty things. You can see those here. Included in those is a picture of Aviator Jason, who may eventually make it into a Quackers strip one day assuming I can think of something for him to do. And no, I have no idea what's on the rag Tom is holding, but whatever it is, it can't be very nice! Also, somewhat influenced by the Alfred Hitchcock film which was on the TV this morning, I produced this little montage of Jason in film noir getup. Don't worry, Tom isn't really dead. It's all part of the ambience! Enjoy, and I shall return in the next couple of days!

11-04-2008

I had a hard time getting this new strip completed. Time managed to slip away from me the whole week that I've been working on it, and adding to the problem has been my compulsion to keep adding little touches to it. Another bush in the background here, a new effect there... Not only that but I had a lot of trouble just figuring out how a moose should look when crouched down. Not something most people think of every day of the week (thanks go to my friend Moose for his help with that dilemma).
In the end I'm proud of how the strip turned out, despite the length of time it took - and the cramp in my fingers. However I think I'll try to keep things a little simpler for the next couple of strips.
And speaking of the next strip, due to the content, work commitments and the need to start on a couple of commissions I've been asked to do, it may be also be delayed as today's comic was. In fact it's almost a given. But to make it up to you I shall be posting a few doodles, sketches, and any little one-off strips I can think of in the bit of free time I have to help ease the wait. I'll update the RSS feed when new content arrives and will also post notices to OnlineComics.net, so people checking those two sources will see when things change here next week.

02-04-2008

As usual, even when trying to get the next comic out as soon as I could, I still couldn't help but keep adding little touches here and there to make it better. Mostly with the result of delaying things. But that's something that most arty types go through. We seem to have an aversion to letting go of any project and proclaiming it 'finished'. Nevertheless I've posted the strip, so you can all finally see it.
The next strip may also be delayed a little bit as it's going to be the start of a couple of lengthy strips which may take some time to draw. I shall try to get it finished as soon as possible though... Assuming I don't let my free time get eaten up playing some of the new video games which have been released!

31-03-2008

After experiencing 'one of those weeks' at work, beginning with the rush of kids on their Easter holiday and culminating in me probably never being allowed a coffee in the store ever again (I'm far too skilled at spilling things), the next strip has been delayed a little. It should be finished in the next two days, so fear not! In the meantime you can enjoy some random doodles I've been... ummm... doodling in some of my precious little free time by clicking here and here. See you in a couple of days!

23-03-2008

Here's the latest strip continuing the adventures of our intrepid heroes. Although it seems some are more intrepid than others... More to come next week, assuming the cold I came down with this week allows me to get some work done!
In the meantime I'd like to wish you all a happy Easter!

13-03-2008

So here it is, the first new Quackers strip in several months! I should be getting back into regular (or semi-regular) comic updates from now on.
Along with this news is the anouncement that Quackers will, in the near future, be moving home! Quackers has now obtained a new domain name which reflects the comic (more than the creator) and should help more people find us. This new domain should be fully active soon, once I've re-written several hundred links on all the web pages here to connect to the new location. This will take some time, and this domain is still going to remain active for a while after the transition to help redirect people. This move should bring more new people to the site, and assuming I'm able to keep the updates flowing regularly, hopefully keep them as regular readers. But for now, small steps.

In the meantime, enjoy the new strip, and stay tuned for the next one next week! :)

04-03-2008

Hey, hey, we're back again and with the first of the site updates. As you can probably tell the website page logos have been spruced up with new artwork (you may need to refresh your browser if you can't see them). Now they reflect the style of the comic as it is currently. Will be interesting to see how long it is before they look out of date again!
As well as that the 'Welcome' page has also been altered after all these years. In there you can now find a brief introduction for the site as well as character bios, offering a small insite into the backgrounds of the Quackers cast.
More changes and news are planned, so stay tuned. There is also going to be news of an unexpected, but pleasant change in the near future to look forward to! See you all soon :D

14-02-2008

And so, after many weeks... months even... and a lot of silence, we finally manage to bring those of you who may still be checking things out here an update. Albeit a small one. As it's Valentine's Day I thought I'd share some love and let you all know that I shall be getting back to drawing, and even posting new strips in the near future.
The last few months have been quite stressful. My old computer broke down, as has been mentioned. But it turned out that it took the hard drives with it when it died which means I lost all the work, settings and everything else from the previous few months. This hit me quite hard and set my motivation back quite a way, leading to the long absense. Finishing my last job, looking for, and more surprisingly, finding a new one also added to the delays somewhat by eating up a lot of my time. Things have calmed down now, I've got a lot of confidence and motivation back and I have been working on a few things which will lead me to have Quackers back up and running again soon.
In the meantime I am working on some new graphics for the site, slight changes to a couple of the characters, as well as a new section or two which will be replacing other ones. The role playing storyline will continue, so no one has to worry that those strips will be abandoned. So, stay tuned, keep checking the RSS feeds and I promise (no really, I mean it this time) that new things will arrive soon.

One last item of news, the email address for Quackers has been down for several weeks due to unknown reasons. It's possibly a problem on the host's side, but for now it means that any messages sent now or over the last few weeks will not be recieved. I shall be attempting to establish a new and hopefully more reliable email address as I update the site later.

19-11-2007

I have managed to find a computer which will not only fit my needs for continuing the strip, but which will also bring my computing up to date and allow me to play some games on it for once without crashing from exhaustion. Better yet, it's within my budget (just about). I'm hoping that if there aren't any surprise withdrawals from my funds that I should be able to purchase this computer within the next week to ten days. Once I have this new PC and can spend a day or so transferring all the programmes, files and other bits to it, I can then finally get back to making Quackers strips for you all. More importantly I can finish the strip I was working on when my last PC died!
It'll still take some time before we get to the strip making stage, but I'm getting there. With any luck we'll be up and running before we get more than a week into December. In the meantime if anybody out there is artistic and feels they would like to submit some filler material till I get myself back up and running again then you can get in touch with me through my email and I can check out your ideas :)

09-11-2007

I'm very sorry (and pretty upset) to announce that due to the unforseen and wholly unexpected death of my main PC I am currently unable to produce more Quackers strips. The good news is that the computer's hard-drives survived the experience, so all the work up to the disaster has survived, so I wil be able to carry on where I left off once this situation can be resolved. However, I cannot say how long that will be at present. Until I can either repair the broken PC (unlikely), or can replace it (rather a lot of saving up to do for that) Quackers will have to remain on hiatus. Rest assured that this situation is a temporary one and the comic will return in near future one way or another. I shall attempt to continue posting news to the site with updates on how things are progressing, and I hope that you all return and continue your support of this comic once the strips are up and running again.
For now, thank you for your readership and I hope to be returning very soon.

- Les Mellor.

07-11-2007

Bit of a delay with the next strip. It's on it's way, it's just taking longer to work on than I wanted it to. Shouldn't be too long now (I hope). For now here's a preview of a panel from the strip (if nothing else then as proof of it's existence!).

03-11-2007

And so the fate of Crazy Vinny is finally revealed here. At least other travellers will be able to take advantage of his multi-buy deals and low, low prices! I hope to have the next strip up by the end of Tuesday, so check back midweek for the next episode!

31-10-2007

As is tradition in most webcomics, not just Quackers, we've sidestepped the current storyline for one day so that the cast can enjoy the fun of trick or treatin' and stuffing themselves full of unhealthy sugary snacks. This year's costume theme was video game characters, the results of which can be seen here. And despite looking as though he's had a terrifying run in with a Simpson's hair stylist, Toby is in fact not dressed as Marge Simpson's hair-do.

29-10-2007

Despite the frankly horrendous things going on with my stomach at the moment (it's amazing how welcome a sick-bowl is at times) here's the delayed strip at last.Work will begin on the next one as soon as possible, so it may not be as big a gap till the next episode!

27-10-2007

I'm sorry to say that the next strip has been delayed until Sunday at the earliest. A busy schedule, extra hours at work, a case of Can'tdrawfortoffeeitis all on top of feeling pretty sick tonight. I do feel bad about not posting for over a week, but I'm doing what I can at the moment. Stay tuned to the site and the RSS feed for more news (or an actual update) soon.

20-10-2007

This strip has to last you all until about Thursday next week. For the next three days I'm going to be in London, so I won't be around to work on the next strip. Monday is the start of the London Video Games Festival, and they're hosting the UK segment of the Video Games Live! concert. I'll be the one with the goofy grin, and wearing Quackers clothing, so I'll not be hard to miss should you happen to be in the area! So, enjoy the strip and try to ease your Quackers withdrawal symptoms by going back through our archives. It's amazing how much one duck and a moose can change in just a few months... See you all next week!

16-10-2007

After seeing Resident Evil: Extinction today I have to ask myself why the makers of the film seem to be going to such great lengths to say that the film "might possibly" have a sequel? Who're they trying to kid? It ended on one of the most blatent cliff hangers outside of syndicated television shows. Not that I'm complaining, I'm a sucker for video game/zombie films... Unless Uwe Boll is involved of course, but then that's only to be expected, right?
Today's strip has nothing at all to do with zombies, monsters or anything even remotely undead. It does continue our fantasy role playing theme however, so go take a look!

13-10-2007

There you are, the next strip as promised. A little extra sleep this morning seems to have helped correct whatever was going on with my brian yesterday. Or whatever wasn't going on as the case may be. Anyway, enjoy, and I shall do what I can to keep further delays minimised!

12-10-2007

I'm afraid to say things are slowing up around here again. I didn't realise quite how tired I'd be after starting this new job, and it's totally destroying my creative ability right now. But that's what I get for having to wake up at 5:30am every day (I ask you, who thought it was a good idea to create a 5:30 in the morning? They really needed to rethink that!). It's not all bad though. I have got the next strip sketched out, but inking the strip has proven next to impossible at the moment as my creative brain is striking. I shall be attempting to finish it tomorrow when I may be a little more together, so please check back in.

08-10-2007

Last week was a little empty of Quackers things, which is partly down to life outside Quackers taking time away from me. Part of which is me regaining employment this morning. It's the same thing as last year, meaning I'll be working night shifts in a few weeks.
Unlike last year I'm hoping that I can sort things so I can keep regular(ish) posting without burning myself out. It'll be tough, but whatever the outcome, I'm not going to diminish the quality of the strips, so occasionally there will be the obligatory gap in postings.
I'm not really all that happy with this latest strip, which is one other reason it's taken a while to get up. While I'm fine with the characters and dialogue, the background has been a major pain and I still don't like it. However it kind of works as it is now, so I've gone ahead and posted it. Ben makes another appearance as dungeon master today, just to remind those who have forgotten that they're still just engaged in a roleplaying game, even after all this time!

03-10-2007

Here's the newest strip, and our adventurer's are finally on their way! Who knows what adverseries and dangers they may face in their quest?! Well... I do I suppose, being the artist and all, but that's not the point. Stay tuned to see what incredible (or not so incredible) adventures await our intrepid heroes.

29-09-2007

UPDATE: While uploading the latest pages to the site earlier today I encountered some problems with the FTP server and with some of my html code in general. This resulted in two hours of attempted fixer-upper operations during which things were kind of screwy.
I'd like to thank those who emailed to let me know of the problems. Information like that is always very helpful, especially as the testing I do doesn't always catch everything.
Things should be running OK with the site now. Both Internet Explorer and Safari seem to be working at this end at least. If any of you out there are still having problems however, please email me to let me know (along with which browser you're trying to view the site with) so that I can fix it :)

Looks like the gang is finally on the road today. About time too! I hear many of you cry.
For those of you who are enjoying this latest Fantasy storyline (and I know there's at least one of you) you'll be happy to know there's still much, much more to come! For those of you not enjoying quite so much... umm, sorry? If it's any consolation, working on this set of strips has allowed me time to come up with new stuff for after this series wraps, so you have something to look forward to ;)

26-09-2007

The latest installment took quite some finishing. As I thought I was getting somewhere and almost finished yesterday an unfortunate and very annoying accident caused me to lose around 5 hours of work. But, I was finally able to put the finishing touches on the strip today and so it is now posted here for you all to enjoy. The next one planned isn't quite so long so I'm hoping I can get it up before the end of the week (Sunday), but as you all should know by now, no promises!

21-09-2007

I'll tell you something, drawing people dressed in robes is fun... at least for the first ten minutes, but after that it starts getting to be a right pain in the... Anyway, this strip was a fun one to do, albiet a tiring one. More shall be arriving as soon as my fingers are working enough to return to drawing!

19-09-2007

Ahoy there, me swashbucklin' sea monkeys! Bein' that today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day, we here be havin' a special surprise fer ya all. If you be clicking this link ye be seein' a nice new wallpaper fer yer computer gizmos. It be featurin' that fine example of ultimate pirateness, Cap'n Witless. So all ye wenches, cabin boys, salty sea dogs 'n grog-swillin' swine be enjoyin' yerselves 'till Quackers returns with the next installment! (which will feature decidedly less pirate talk, I promise)

17-09-2007

A new strip has been posted, which you can see by clicking here. More to follow mid-week.

15-09-2007

With no excuse for the lateness of this strip I shall simply place myself into detention for a week and let you get on with catching up with the gang's exploits. On a further note, however, I would like to remind our readers that the Kid's Book Project' is nearing completion. To help make sure that it can be released successfully we're looking to get as many pre-orders as possible, so please, go to the site via the link above and place your pre-order now!

10-09-2007

And we're back! If you click here you can catch up with the first of a new set of adventures planned for the Quackers team. As the strips have started a little late this week the next one is looking to be up by the end of Thursday if all goes to plan. After this week the schedule should return to Sunday/Wednesday releases.

05-09-2007

A lot's been going on this week and not all of it's been going well. As a result of that I've been a tad run down. That and the fact I've not taken time away from the comic for around nine months has led to my decision to take a break from Quackers for the rest of the week while I rest up a bit.

I'll be using some of the time to come up with new strips for the future, so the break will be of some use to the site. The strips will resume next week on Monday 10th. As well as the upcoming story arc being quite long, the strips that make it up will be, too. Each will average around 8 panels, so with the extra work the current update schedule of two strips a week around Sunday/Wednesday will likely continue.
So, until next week, enjoy the break from the updates and remember to be back on Monday! :D

01-09-2007

If you look this new strip, you will see that Jason hasn't quite got the hang of his new hobby yet. But there's still time for him to learn the basics, hopefully before something much bigger than he is eats him whole...

29-08-2007

Apologies to those relying on my RSS feed to keep up with new strips. Seems it didn't work for Sunday, so those people missing that update, make your way to Sunday's strip with this link. The rest of you can click here to see how Jason manages to cope now that he's faced up to his video games addiction.

26-08-2007

A touch later than planned, but today we have a new strip packed with guest gaming characters. 10 Quackers brownie points to those who can name all of them. (Points not redeemable for cash or incentives - it's just for fun people!)
The main theme of the strip should be familiar to all you Legend of Zelda fans and came about from the kinds of silly messages the games sometimes have. I never did think the game accurately portrayed the feeling Link would have from battling through a huge dungeon just to find a chest with 5 rupees in it...

24-08-2007

Due to a spontaneous, unexpected and desperately needed day at the beach, the next strip has been delayed. But it's only by one day, so expect it to be up by the end of tomorrow! :)

22-08-2007

The gaming influences on this comic are a curious blend of one-on-one beat-'em-ups and any and all turn-based battle games. Oddly enough it seems to work...

19-08-2007

Despite my sickly state and the amount of work involved in making this strip, I finally managed to get it together and posted. Can't be sure when the next one is going up, but I'll try to make it soon.
Today's strip should look a little familiar to anyone who's played Half-Life 2 as it's the inspiration for today's game-themed episode. But it shouldn't be inaccessible to those of you who haven't played it. Either way, watch out for the cameo of a previously featured guest (and no, I don't mean Scruffy the dinosaur).

18-08-2007

I'm not too well at the moment. I'm not sure what I've managed to catch (or even how I managed to catch it), but it's sapping all the energy from me. Right now I'm feeling pretty nasty and I just don't have it in me to get anything done, which is why there's been such a big gap in the strips this week. I'm trying to get the next one done, but I really can't get any of it looking right while I'm feeling like this, so it may be a day or two more till it's ready.
I do feel bad for not posting much this week, but I'll try my best to get more on here soon. For now just keep checking the RSS feed for any additional updates!

15-08-2007

A tough one to get finished (and having a couple of sleepless nights hasen't helped), but finally a new strip has arrived! Hopefully I shouldn't take as long over the next one! (Then again...)

11-08-2007

I have been known to become a little too involved with my video games in the past. Not that I've ever grabbed the nearest melée weapon to hand and started running around the streets looking for targets, unlike the way many non-gaming politicians think gamers such as me do. But I have had my moments of video gaming obsession. Thinking about this is what led to this strip, and the few that will follow. After all, if anyone is capable of going off the deep end, it's got to be Jason!

09-08-2007

Not a lot to say today. Still working hard to get some spare strips ready for next week to fill the gap while I'll be away, although it's proving a challenge to say the least! Other than that if you click here you can enjoy the latest strip.

06-08-2007

Working hard at the moment to get far enough ahead with strips that I can take some much needed time away for some R&R without leaving you all with a lack of Quackersy fun. If I manage that then maybe I can get over the artistic block I've been suffering from lately and get back into things with renewed vigour! Until then here's the next strip for this week.

05-08-2007

Today we say thank you to all of you out there who continue to keep coming back to see this comic. Your support is very much appreciated and I hope that Quackers can continue to entertain you all well into the future. With that in mind, here is the latest strip!

01-08-2007

Today's strip is dedicated to all those of you out there who have lost friends and loved ones to the addiction that is Pokémon. While alright in moderation it is all too easy to see the people we care lost to this addiction whenever a new part of the franchise comes out. One such person is my friend, the Moose, who has succumbed to this problem in the past and is currently wrapped up in the new game, Pearl, released over here last Friday. May you get well soon my friend!

30-07-2007

Even when things are pretty normal in the Quackers household there are still some things that can throw you for a loop. Catch up with what's going on by clicking this little link!

27-07-2007

I did say that Jason would be back for this strip, although I'm thinking that Tom probably wishes he wasn't right now! No other news for now, so simply enjoy the comic :)

25-07-2007

Unusually for Quackers we're missing the presence of a duck in today's strip. But Jason is taking a day off from strip production today, so we have not one, but three guests to fill in for him! Ben the tortoise, Kevin the cat and Huey the dog have all kindly stepped up to help out, so enjoy their performance while you can as Jason will be back for the next strip.

22-07-2007

Eugh! Really have to apologise for this one, it was a major pain to finish and no mistake! For almost two days I just couldn't get any part of it to look right, not helped at all by a sudden absence of artistic ability (if such a thing lies within me). More than ten outtakes and about three re-writes, including the removal of at least one panel and I finally got to a point where I didn't feel like just dumping it into the comic graveyard. Although there's still time for that... The next one will, with any luck, be a little more Quackers-like!

18-07-2007

It's just another average afternoon in the Quackers household today, as you can see from this strip. Good job Jason and Tom are used to it.
Some of you who have access to the Quackers RSS feed may have noticed some unusual goings-on with it over the last few days, especially those who use Apple's Safari web browser. The problem seemed to be some erratic code which caused the feed to stop working. Having brushed up on RSS coding and re-written large chunks of the feed it seems to be working OK again (despite some duplication of old posts during testing). It appears to be working fine now on the aggrigators I've tested, so hopefully you should all be able to use it without trouble again to keep up with the latest Quackers updates!

16-07-2007

We have a very special guest star in today's strip. Dr. Steve is here to offer advice on public health and safety. Now, for those of you unfamiliar with Dr. Steve's work, you may want to check out his his debut way back on 27th September last year. It's been a while, but he's finally given in to the pressure to make another public appearance. If he gets a good response to this visit, there may be more in the future.

11-07-2007

Just another brief update today with a new strip which can be located here. Click away!

11-07-2007

Not much to say for today's news, so I shall keep it ever so brief by saying click here for the latest strip.

07-07-2007

After the storms, floods, and more rain than anyone can think what to do with, we finally got to see some sunshine! Didn't last long though, as more rain (albeit not in the amounts we've been getting used to) arrived to chase it away again. Even so, it inspired this particular comic strip.
Also, very many thanks go to my good friend Moose who was kind enough to let me have his spare wireless router which has got me back onto the internet without having to make expensive steam-powered dial-up connections. Yay for mooses! ;)
So now that I have my (numerous) gadgets and computers linked back up to the net again mean that strips can finally start coming through on a regular basis? I'd like to say yes. It's certainly what I shall be trying to do, but as with many other webcomics out there, it's no guarantee. I shall be trying to make a workable release schedule that I can stick to over the next week, so look out for more news about that as it appears!

04-07-2007

Would you look at that? A new strip in the middle of the week, as planned! On second thought, don't look too hard, we might scare it off again. Best to keep our distance and not to startle it.
This could be the start of a trend, but I've learned not to bet on things like that as they never seem to work out right. But you have to admit it's made a nice change to have at least one strip arrive on time, hasn't it? :)

02-07-2007

As the strip I promised has run a little late, and as it's also the last official appearance of Captain Witless, I thought I'd take a little extra time today to make sure that it looked uber-pretty for you all. So click here to see it!

01-07-2007

I was planning to have a new strip up for view today, the last one featuring Captain Witless as it would happen. However it's taking a teeny bit longer to finish off than expected, so it won't be posted tonight. Sorry folks. On the up side, it will be posted to the site nice and early tomorrow once I finish it off completely, so at least you don't have long to wait :)

28-06-2007

Just a quick little update today. We have a new strip detailing how the Salty Seal manages to get back out to sea. We're approaching the end of the piratey adventures of Captain Witless, so be sure to check back again to see what happens. If the good captain proves popular enough there may be more plans for him in the future ;)
In other news things are still running on prehistoric technology around here as I'm still restricted to a dial-up connection. It's amazing how much you can miss something as simple as an ADSL internet connection when it takes about five minutes to download one webpage (no kidding, one site took that long for me to access!). That, coupled with the non-stop rain leaking into the house prompting some emergency DIY repairs are causing more of the ever expected delays. Anyone think it might ever be possible for me to post on a regular basis? Didn't think so...

24-06-2007

The weather here is still as bad as ever, with rain being almost ever-present. It's pretty much a similar story throughout the whole country from what I can tell and it's having the unfortunate effect of making me, and everyone else more than a little cranky (to be polite about it). Seems that at the moment you can't go anywhere around here without being shouted at, pushed, jabbed, insulted or generally treated like a piece of 10 year old rubbish. You think we'd all be used to this kind of thing here in the UK, but obviously not. Maybe we should just erect a series of gigantic umbrellas over all the towns and cities?
Waterlogged and crammed through an increasingly slow dial-up connection, here is today's comic. Captain Witless is still living up to his name while the Salty Seal remains beached. How can the crew escape this situation? Stay tuned for more during the week!

21-06-2007

I'm beginning to find this kind of thing all too familiar... I finally get my computer under control again after months of problems, only to be struck down yet again by another one.
As the weather remains at it's best for the typical UK summer (resembling something close to an ever-present monsoon), we experience several lightning storms. One passed directly overhead the other night and several lightning bolts actually struck nearby (click here to see one example), one being within a few hundred feet of the house. That particular bolt managed to knock out my adsl line, however, meaning that I am currently without internet access for all intents and purposes. I have managed to upload this new strip via dial-up, but it has proved more than cumbersome. Further updates may be as and when I can get a decent connection available again, which should be after the weekend at the latest, although I'm not counting my ducklings before they've hatched!
On another related note, I have had emails regarding the updat schedule of this site. To those people who are interested to know when this site is supposed to be updated, I'm afraid at the moment there is no schedule. Updates happen when they happen, although I do try to aim for two a week. In the near future I would like to aim for updates on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but this isn't set in stone. At the moment my best suggetion for anyone wanting to keep up with new strips and content is to subscribe to the Quackers RSS feed (link at the top of this page) as a new feed is posted along with every update. Alternatively you can find us at online Comics where new strips are listed in the news posts, although these are not as immediate as the RSS feed.

17-06-2007

Quite a big chunk of comic today, which is one reason it's taken a while to get up. Another reason has been rain. It's not such a problem when it's outside, but once it starts sneaking into the house (presumably to get warm or something) it starts to be a nuisance. Especially when it comes close to large groups of electrical equipment... As you can imagine I've been more than a little cautious with my computer over the last few days as a result. Especially with more than 3 days of almost constant rain in what seems like a recreation of the biblical floods of Noah.
Despite all this I seem to have finally put an end to my PC's technical problems. After the failure of Wednesday's experimet to replace the RAM I'd all but given up hope of figuring out what was wrong. However some keen observations and a couple of experiments led to the revelation that all the problems I'd had were a result of... one slightly dodgy USB cable.
No, I couldn't believe it either. Still, after swapping it for a new one everything's back to normal. What this means is that I may be able to get back to a more regular update schedule, with only long strips like today's leading to delays (hey, they take time to make you know!)

13-06-2007

So after installing the components I thought would help fix my recent (and all too lengthy) computer problems I turned on my PC and... Nothing. No change at all. So it's back to the drawing board on that one as well as scouting out more possible solutions before things get any worse. Thanks go to Simon for his generous help, however. Thankies, my man!
No matter, for here is another strip, fresh off the hard drive!

10-06-2007

Finally the next strip is finished and out of the way. And boy am I glad, too! After the fantastic ease and enjoyability of last week's posting, this one has proved to be the complete opposite. Over half a dozen re-writes to the script, each frame re-drawn more times than I care to recall and a cat that just wouldn't look right no matter what. Maybe I've just been trying too hard, but either way it won't stop me continuing our little pirate themed story! More to come in the week.

06-06-2007

OK, so quite a lengthy delay between updates this time. However my work for the Kid's Book Project is finished (other than promoting it - go on, buy it!) and I should be back to making two or three strips a week again.
Everyone's probably sick of piratey-type things by now, but I'm taking no notice! Despite not seeing At World's End yet, its release is a good excuse to make a series of piratey strips. It also means I can throw in lots of references to the Monkey Island series of adventure games - a huge favourite of mine. Consider these strips a nod to those games more than the aforementioned feature film.
Anyway, to help make things up for the update delay I worked long and hard on this latest strip. Personally I really enjoyed drawing it and think it's turned out to be one of the better ones I've done (visually, even if not for the joke). Hope you enjoy it and the debut airing of Captain Witless and the Salty Seal!

31-05-2007

So it's been a busier week than I'd anticipated. It's now my turn to make a page for the Kid's Book Project. A one page strip, how hard can that be? Well it seems my randomly chosen turn has placed me on the team who is working backwards through the book. So while I can write whatever I Want, I have to think about all the ways I need to make it fit in with the page after the I'm you're doing. Talk about confusing... The side effect of which has been the amount of time I took getting the latest strip onto the site. Nevertheless, the strip is now up and tomorrow I should have the Kid's Book page complete, meaning another Quackers strip should make it onto the site by Saturday or Sunday. I know this means the site has only really had one update this week, but bear in mind the Kid's Book is for charity. And as such you can all help out by heading to the website (linked below) and pre-ordering the book today :D

26-05-2007

Mix together one night of insomnia, a few strong coffees, several sugary snacks and an idea that's been fermenting in your head for a couple of weeks and this is probably what you'd come up with too. I think I'm due for a good long rest!

23-05-2007

Yay! A mid-week update, at last! This is a strip I've been wanting to do for a little while, so I'm glad to have finally been able to draw it. There'll be another one at the weekend which I've been wanting to do for a few weeks before we make way for another ongoing story. Brace yourselves!

20-05-2007

Well this one was a pain to finish, I can tell you. A couple of computer crashes and redoing the same bit over and over really knocks the concentration out of you. As a result it may seem a little... rough. Or not, you decide. Anyway, enjoy. I'm going to lie down for a while...
*Whumpf*

16-05-2007

I can't take all the blame... I mean credit for today's strip. Inspiration came from someone else who I shall not name, but have no problem pointing out to you.
*points*
See, there he is, it's his doing! Well whoever's fault it is, it's done now and is out of my system. All being well a new strip will be posted in a couple of days (but we've all heard that before, right?).

12-05-2007

As you can see from this stip, our heroes did indeed make it home in one piece, after gathering a few souvenirs along the way. It seems Jason finally managed to work out what a decimal point actually is...
In other news, the problems with Photoshop seem to have been sorted out after some radical software restructuring (ie, removing the old version I had and replacing it with a newer one). However I now have to contend with the remaining Windows based problems which are a much bigger issue altogether. Here's hoping it doesn't take too much longer to get hold of the parts I'm waiting for!
Also, in an attempt to cheer up (and embarrass) my friend, I'm making this week the 'Quackers' Moose Awareness Week!' So please everyone, be especially aware of your - and other people's - mooses. And remember our official Moose Awareness Week slogan: "Have you hugged your moose today?"
;D

08-05-2007

Here it is at last, the end of the story! Some of the next few strips will almost be sequels to this storyline, but this really is the end of the time travelling. For now at least. The next big story won't be for a couple of weeks yet, so there's time to take a breather!
I may have found the cause of the problem with my PC, so things may be back to normal soon. I'm definitely hoping the delays won't get any worse at least. But as a thanks for all your patience I did put more than a little extra effort into today's strip, so hope you enjoy it :)

04-05-2007

Hurray! Another update at last :)
While I originally planned time travel story to end today, I decided to add another strip to tie up a loose end. After much insistence from a certain moose I know I finally decided to go with this idea which may provide many future stories (as well as pleasing a certain someone no end).
I'm sorry to say that my computer problems are not fixed, but I have backed everything up in the last two days. Assuming the general consensus is correct and my computer is about to suffer a hard-drive failure, at least I have everything safely stored to disc (see, I learned from last year's problems). Updates will continue to be slow for now, but they will keep happening!
Also, in other news, Quackers has been given a mention at Hopper Comics. Head over to www.hoppercomics.com to check it out!
And not forgetting to mention that Quackers has now officially been put into print! A special edition of the strip has been published in the first ever issue of Raytoons Cartoon Avenue. Anyone wanting to see this special edition strip should head over to http://stores.ebay.com/Raytoons where you can order a copy of the magazine, or even subscribe to future issues.

30-04-2007

Pets can be so problematic at times. After our cat got into a fight with something larger than him and suffered a nasty bite to his tale, I had to take him to the vet. So, I hold the cat down while the vet cleans the bite. While I'm holding the head end (the end with all the teeth), the cat bites me to make me let him go, meaning I then have to be checked out by the vet after bleeding all over his nice clean surgery. Irony sometimes plays too big a part in my life.
Anyway, it's been a long week. The computer problems don't seem to be getting any better. Light may be at the end of the tunnel as I have been offered some parts that might help (fingers crossed). In the meantime until I get hold of them I have managed to struggle ahead and complete the next strip.
Due to the ongoing problems I'm having with Photoshop I can't guarantee when I'll get the conclusion to this stary arc uploaded, but I'll be sure to keep you all informed, so keep checking back!

28-04-2007

I just have to say how really, really sorry I am that it's taking so long to update the site at the moment. Unfortunately I seem to be undergoing a series of computer problems that are seriously hindering my work on Quackers. Internet connection problems, Photoshop crashing/locking up, lost work and even Windows refusing to boot have all contributed to the huge delay. I hope to have these things (or at least some of them) resolved soon. Please be assured I'll post the next strip the minute I'm able to get it completed. In the meantime hang in there and keep checking back for more info, and thanks for being patient!

24-04-2007

Several re-writes, the complete redrawing of at least three panels and one rather nasty headache later, I produced this. OK, so not the most gag-filled installment, but it does set things up nicely for the next part. It may also help to explain some of the more 'unusual' things that exist in our time as well...
The next part of the story is a little tougher to draw, and with some personal things to sort out this week it will probably be delayed (yes, again) until about Friday. Be sure to check in Thursday, however, just in case ;)

22-04-2007

First of all, click here to see part six of the current story. Well, who said fossile fuels would be good enough to power a time machine?
Things should be about back on schedule now. So, come back Tuesday for the next update.
I was going to place an Easter Egg in this news post relating to today's strip, but realised if you see that first it ruins the joke of the main comic. But as I still kind of like it and didn't want to waste it, I placed it here in the comic graveyard. Feel free to take a look, but please read the main strip first! :)

20-04-2007

Oh, you thought the last strip was the end of the story, did you? Far from it! There's plenty more to come, and just to prove it I'm ending this week's strips on this cliffhanger! Next week's strips should start off on Sunday (yes, I'm one of the odd people who's week starts on Sundays). That is, assuming I don't have a relapse of 'Can'tdrawtosavemylifeitis' which I seem to have been sufferring from all week, so apologies for any rough looking strips over the last few days.
So, tune in Sunday to see what happens to our heroes! :)

18-04-2007

I'm pretty pleased with this one. Jason is very well suited to this kind of Warner Bros Loony Tunes kind of thing :)
Thankfully Tom knows how to push the right buttons to get them back on track... Unlike Jason, who's button pushing landed them where and when they are in the first place!

16-04-2007

And so, at last, we have the next strip online. Officially the largest strip I've done so far, it's also been the longest to finish. Personally I'm glad it's done as it's been driving me crazy trying to get it to look just how I wanted it. So I shall be spending a day keeping well away from Quackers to recouperate and I should hopefully have the next strip up by the end of Wednesday.

15-04-2007

Apologies to anyone expecting the usual Sunday update. The latest strip is taking longer to work on than I thought it would (as happens when a small script becomes a much larger one). I'm hoping to have it posted by the end of tomorrow however, so you won't have to wait long.

13-04-2007

The second part of our story has gone up. And if any of you want a closer look at the publication mentioned in the strip, just click here.
A little tweaking has also gone into the strip posted on the 10th and it's now been reposted. Just a couple of colour alterations and removal of a couple of lines to make it less busy and a little easier to read, which was the main complaint I had about it.

10-04-2007

I'm not entirely happy with this one, especially as it's the first strip of the new storyline. It's possible I may alter it before I post the next part, but right now I'm just too tired to do more. I promise I'll try to do better next time.

08-04-2007

To all those of you who celebrate such things; Happy Easter! To those of you that see this weekend as a good excuse to fill up on chocolate (as I do), enjoy the sugar rush! :)
Here is a quick message from the Quackers team (namely myself and the ducks, mooses and other animals). The new storyline starts this week and should be due to begin about Tuesday. If you can't hang on that long, I'll be posting some wallpapers tomorrow, so take a look.
Also, I'm taking part in the Kid's Book Project. This book will be an improvised story created by a many webcomic artists, myself included, with each of us creating one page of the book. Catch is we only get to see the page before and nothing else. The book will be released around December 2007 with money from the project going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. More information can be found at the Kid's Book Projct Website, along with ordering information. Go on, head over and take a look!

05-04-2007

Here we go, a quick(ish) filler strip has now been posted. As you can see, Jason seems to have recovered quickly from his operation and is pretty much completely back to normal. At least as normal as he ever gets!

04-04-2007

Posted a day later than I wanted, but after a late start, and a long night I thought it better to post later with a decent looking strip than post something terrible last night. So, here is the last part of the current story. New one coming soon, although there may be a couple of quicky fillers in between :)

01-04-2007

No, it's not an April fools joke, there really is an update!
I'm the kind of person who doesn't take pills or medicine at the slightest sniffle or cough, so today's installment is apt in a way. Although I'm not sure there's anyone who wouldn't feel the same way after trying some of Dr Quackman's alternative treatments. Click here to see what I mean...

30-03-2007

Just a quick post today to say that a new strip is up. Obviously there's more to come in the next couple of days, so make sure to come back and check us out over the weekend!

28-03-2007

Those of you who are long-time readers of Quackers, or those who have braved the archives, will possibly remember the character guest starring in today's strip. He first appeared way back in September in this storyline and hung around for six whole strips! Something that was unheard of back then. Well now he's back for a further four strips, which I know will please at least one of my friends ;)

26-03-2007

OK, I took a day or so extra before posting this strip, not because it was a long one or anything, but just because I needed the break. I'd noticed the characters lately had started to look wrong as I wasn't drawing them as well as I could have. So, a couple of days away from the strips and I seem to be back in the groove again.
The short-sightedness story continues this week with the main issue of laser surgery starting with the next update. Not that I've had the surgery myself, but I wouldn't mind. My eyesight (or lack of it) makes everything from cooking to reading without annoying glasses/lenses a chore. Getting my eyeballs fried can't be any worse, can it?

23-03-2007

Well the joke today may be a little obvious, but it was still worth doing. Just remember it's helping to establish things for what's coming up over the next week, as well as my hatred of goofy glasses.

21-03-2007

As of this strip a new storyline begins. This series will be made up of lots of short strips for once, rather than the mammoth ones I've been making of late. A little more audience and artist friendly! Although I can't guarantee the jokes will be any funnier. Oh well, can't win them all... ;)

19-03-2007

A small, but special strip this time, as both Jason and myself celebrate the survivial of yet another year each.

17-03-2007

Here's the second half of my strip and the conclusion to the storyline. That's another experimental set of strips done in terms of storytelling and lighting. Not to everyone's taste, but that's the fun of owning your own comic, you get to try whatever you want! New strip Monday and back to the old and reliable format (for now).

15-03-2007

Well that was a tough one! After many, many, many maaaaaaany hours of work, the strip you've all been waiting so patiently for is finally here. As I have previously mentioned, there is a part two to this, so another strip will be up soon, although probably not tomorrow. Expect that one Saturday. As for right now, I think it's time I hit the sack before I pass out entirely! G'night all.

14-03-2007

Disappointingly, Life has managed to jam it's foot in the door and thrown a few cream pies at me over the last couple of days, which has lead to a teensy delay on the next strip. But don't fret, it shall be posted by the end of tomorrow, and hopfully the second half should soon follow. I apologise to everyone who may be upset by this lack of posting lately, but I'm getting there. Just hang in there for a few more hours!

13-03-2007

Another mini-update today. Two new pictures have been added into the wallpaper area of the Special Features segment, so head there to take a peak :)

11-03-2007

A simple one-off strip today. There'll be another 2-3 day wait before posting the next strip as it's going to be one that'll take a little more effort to produce (as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago). A couple of little bits may appear here in the meantime, so keep a check on your RSS feeds if you have them.

08-03-2007

Our little storyline finally comes to an end with Jason eventaully getting out of that well. Another small(ish) strip should appear at the weekend, which should please those of you who look forward to that kind of thing. So, see you at the weekend! :)

06-03-2007

Just a quick post today. I'm tired, I ache and I just want to get to bed. So let me get straight to the point and say you should click here to see today's continuation of Jason and the well! Enjoy, and I'll catch you all again in a couple of days time.

04-03-2007

A certain moose who is a friend of mine, and a much appreciated test subject for my strips and drawing ideas (as well as a self-confessed Quackers addict) wanted to know quite how Jason ended up at the bottom of that well. It is because of this question that we have this strip. It took rather longer than I expected to complete, and is one of the larger strips I've done so far, but it has been good practice for some of the other things I have planned later! ;)
As this has been an addition to the current storyline there are still another two to go. The next strip will be due to arrive around Tuesday, so don't forget to check back then for more!

01-03-2007

And so the saga that began as a small one off strip continues with an unexpected Part 2! There will be more to this storyline, so remember to come back over the weekend to catch up with how things progress.
I'm also going to take this opportunity to say hi to my friend André who's birthday it was yesterday. Without André this site would not be here. I'd like to say a huge thank you for all the help and support you've provided with getting this website started and it's continued operation. I'm also very grateful to you for putting up with me for so many years! :)

27-02-2007

Just another short one today. Things are a little tough this week, so there may be more short strips to come. As you may have gathered, the two parter mentioned in the last post will not be this week, but it will be soon. For now, enjoy this strip, and expect a follow up or two in a couple of days :)

24-02-2007

It's been a slow week for updates on the site, but there will be plenty heading this way in the next week or so, all being well. First of all I've been working on a two part storyline which may arrive in the next week. Although it's a tough one, so it'll be a long process to produce, so we'll have to see.
One reason for being so busy was the time spent preparing the special project I mentioned in an earlier post. This project was a special strip made for Quackers' debut into printed media! That's right, we'll be appearing on actual paper! More news on this when the date of release is closer. It is, however, just one strip. Don't be fooled into thinking there's a book or anything. It'll take a lot more bribes and blackmail before that happens!
So for now, here's today's strip. If you haven't already guessed, I'm a little accident prone, so it won't take much to figure out where I got the inspiration for it.

22-02-2007

Well now, I've not forgotten you all, I've finally returned. First of all let me apologise about today's strip. In the end it bacame a bit of a cathartic rant about the horrors of sending anything through the post, based on what has happened to me recently. It was something I felt I needed to get off my chest somehow (even if it was through a comic).
My Wii did indeed break down and I had it returned yesterday. However I feel a flight of stairs and a disgruntled post office worker were involved in it's return, but I don't have enough evidence to claim foul play!
So, with the ranting over it's now time to point out that Quackers is celebrating an anniversary this week. One year ago my friends made the mistake of accepting an email from me which contained the first digitised Quackers strip! It was all downhill from there...

17-02-2007

Looks like my idea of sticking to short strips this week has failed. This will be the last strip until about Tuesday. Have a special project to work on at the moment which is going to take a bit of time to complete. But never fear! For the first strip of next week shall be super-sized, for extra Quackers-y goodness!

15-02-2007

Here ya go, people. Just another short one again today, but remember, shorter is sometimes sweeter ;)

14-02-2007

Happy Valentine's Day! (yeah, right)

13-02-2007

Going to limit myself to a few short strips this week. Think I'm in need of a little break from all the longer strips I've been drawing recently. Especially if the frustration I've been feeling over not getting the drawing exactly as I want them is anything to go by! Also I have some other projects to begin work on (which are Quackers related and will be elaborated on later).
So, hope you enjoy this strip, and I'll post more later this week!

11-02-2007

We finally had snow here, as unamusing as that it. Never did like the stuff! All cold and wet and... well, cold. I'm not the only one unimpressed by it either. The ducks I saw at the local lake were anything but happy it seemed. I don't think they were made for ice-skating, as you can see here. (To see more, check out my flickr gallery via these links)

This is a Flickr badge showing public photos from sponge2292. Make your own badge here.

Anyway, in 'celebration' of this event is this strip.

07-02-2007

Not a lot to say this time other than go here for the new strip :)

04-02-2007

Well if this latest strip wasn't a hand cramper, I don't know what is! And shockingly enough for a Quackers strip, not one single duck in sight! O.o
Don't worry though, they'll be back in the next strip ;)

01-02-2007

OK, so a new strip is posted, and what a job and a dozen that was! My lacklustre skills at drawing humans aside, I did have to redo a few sections of the strip a few times to get them how I wanted them, but I think they're looking OK now. Either way, after working through the night two nights in a row I think I'm past caring! Hope it at least brings a smile to your face :)

30-01-2007

The next strip is currently in production, maybe on the site tomorrow, but don't hold me to that (you know how bad I am at keeping to my deadlines). In the meantime two more pictures have been added to the wallpaper page of the Special Features section that you can check out here.

28-01-2007

Another new strip is available for your viewing pleasure.

26-01-2007

Just a quick bit of new today to say the next strip is up. Happy reading :)

24-01-2007

And so, after much strenuous effort, and working far longer and harder on the project than first expected, Quackers: The Untold Story at long last has a second chapter! Don't expect Chapter Three to be up in the next week or two, but it won't be another six months, that I can assure you. There won't be any more rewrites causing delays, for one. Anyway, head to The Untold Story in the Special Features section by clicking here. In the next day or two I will be adding a contents page for the story, but for now I'm guessing it's been so long since anyone read it that you could all use a refresher, so the above link will take you to the opening page.
(And yes, the first strips really were drawn on scrappy bits of card as the story says! Who knew we'd get so hi-tech?!)
Many will be glad to know that a new, ordinary strip will be on the site in the next two days as well (once my hand recovers from all the scribbling) and I shall also be adding select pictures from Untold Story to the wallpaper and scraps sections, so head back soon for those. Subscribing to the RSS feed means you'll know about them the minute they're updated!

21-01-2007

Well, the plan to add the ability to leave comments on this site didn't go to plan, so it has had to be abandoned for now. The work on this did lead to a slight delay in my plans for other updates to the site (namely additions to the Untold Story). So for now there's a new strip to enjoy and, all being well (which would make a change) the Untold Story: Chapter 2 should be up tomorrow.

19-01-2007

Tadaa! One new strip :D
More new things tomorrow, if you're lucky!

18-01-2007

No new strip today, but the more eagle-eyed amongst you will notice the site has been given a face-lift. Albeit a minor one. I just thought it was about time to spruce things up around here. Bit of a nip and tuck here and there. While I've been changing things around here, I've also been looking into adding a comments section to the site. If I can ever get this whole php script thing figured out I should be able to provide you, the readers, with a way to comment on how things are around here. Testing and updating this will take a few more days however, so don't expect anything just yet.
I have also added a new pic to the scraps page. It was a little something I was working on that didn't really go anywhere, so thought I'd at least show it here. Other pics, sketches and bits and bobs will appear there in time, so keep watching.
I have also been working on Untold Story this week (at last). Finger/paws/hooves crossed I should have Chapter Two up by Sunday. I promise!
And finally, I've archived the old news from 2006 into a seperate page you can link to from here (see top of page). Every so often I intend to dump old postings in there to help keep this page size down.
Hope the changes are recieved well and if anyone experiences any glitches or errors, please don't hesitate to email me and let me know so I can fix things up! And all being well I should have the next strip online tomorrow.

16-01-2007

Today's strip speaks well of those times when people want to get hold of you but you know you really shouldn't answer that phone...
For those that are wondering, this strip was not in any way inspired by real events happening to anyone one in particular that I know. We here at Quackers disavow any such knowledge. Really we do...
(snigger)

14-01-2007

It's a pain losing things that you've hidden away in a 'safe place'. Because of this we here at Quackers feel that everyone should purchase one of our new Find-a-Things! Switch it on, program in what it is you're looking for and be simply amazed at how quickly you'll find your lost things!

A bit of a quicky for today's strip, but nevertheless it's better than no strip at all.
Anyone wondering how the recipient of the tougher end of the Club of Righteous justice from yesterday's strip faired after his ordeal, don't worry. He recieved plenty of medical attention and has recovered well (although a little miffed) :)

13-01-2007

OK, so it didn't quite make it up before the weekend, but the long awaited new Mega Duck strip is up nonetheless! I shall make it up to you all though by (at last) adding another wallpaper into the special features section later in the day. For those of you with access to our RSS feed (link at the top of this page), I shall update it the moment I post the new addition, so you'll know the minute it happens! Right, time I got some sleep I think...

A new wallpaper has now been added to into the Special Features section. Click here to go see.

09-01-2007

Today I'm not only announcing that a new strip is up for viewing, but also that there may be (or maybe not, depending on how distracted I get) a slight dely on the next strip. It shall feature the return of Dave, AKA Mega Duck! It's going to take a little more work than the average strip, hence the delay. Either way it'll be up before the weekend. (and we all believe that like we believe ferrets can fly).

06-01-2007

Not to get you all too excited or anything, but there's a new strip ready and waiting to be viewed! :)

05-01-2007

I was wanting to have a whole storyline based around the January sales, but after taking far too long and due to mounting frustration, the strip I was working on has now been scrapped. In the end it just wasn't working out as not only did none of it look right (and was getting less right all the time) it also wasn't really going to fit with the rest of the strips on here. I'm sorry to everyone who's disappointed with the lack of activity on here this week, but I shall be posting a strip tomorrow (totally unrelated to sales or shopping).
For anyone interested in such things, or for those who are just bored, you can see part of the aborted comic strip here in the Special Features section under 'Scraps'.
Also, while mentioning the Special Features section, work on 'Untold Story' will be starting up again. Six months is a long time to wait, I know, but with any luck I should be able to get at least another chapter out in the next couple of weeks.
Once again, thank you all for your patience.

02-01-2007

It's the New Year! And it's just like the old year. Same old problems, debts and unkept resolutions. At least the Universe is consistent :)
Enjoy the first new strip of 2007!

31-12-2006

Happy New Year everyone!
...and thanks to everyone who's kept coming back to follow our exploits this last six months :)

30-12-2006

It's almost 2007 now, and that's as good an excuse for a party as any! Also a good excuse for today's strip...

27-12-2006

Well Christmas is gone and now it's time for the short run up to the New Year. Resolutions, good will and new beginnings are all well and good, but they're so much better when you're prepared... with alcohol.
New strip's up and awaiting your viewing.

25-12-2006

I'm afriad that due to being a little poorly yesterday (for little see 'horrendously' and poorly see 'sick beyond belief') I was unable to complete the strip I had planned for that day. So, to avoid wasting it and to make up for the lack of content I spent a lot more time on it today as well as working on today's scheduled posting as well. So, Merry Christmas to those of you that celelbrate it, and hope that these two strips offer some holiday cheer :)
Dec 24th strip
Dec 25th strip

23-12-2006

Just a short post today as I'm wracked with cold again and feeling like someone's using my head as a parade ground for really heavy-footed soldiers. So all there is to say is that despite the ickiness flooding my body I have managed to post a new strip. More to follow in the coming days (assuming I'm able to drag myself out of bed).

20-12-2006

Woohoo! A strip that's arrived on time! Small miracles do happen sometimes You can see that little wonder here :)
The holiday strips have truly kicked in now, and there (hopefully) shall be quite a few more over the next two weeks, so there's plenty to look forward to!

19-12-2006

At long last the new strip is up and available for viewing. I don't think I'll be attempting one that long again in a hurry. At least not until my fingers have stopped cramping up! Stay tuned for more arriving within the next day... or two, if things go a little pear-shaped again.

18-12-2006

Yet another delayed strip, and I'm truly sorry to you all for that. But I can assure you it's a good thing as this strip is longer than usual and with more graphical touches. I hope you won't be disappointed when you get to see it which should be tomorrow.

Keep 'em occupied

17-12-2006

Oh no, more delays! Well it is Christmas and things are bound to get a little out of hand, right? Anyway, a new strip has now been posted, so head on over here to see it.

13-12-2006

And so we've reached that time of year. The time when all little comic strip artists turn their thoughts to Christmas and what a nightmare it is coming up with new material! Nevertheless, here is some new material, and it's waiting for your viewing pleasure :)

11-12-2006

Mornings are evil. Those of us with an aversion to them should be allowed to skip them every day to avoid bad moods and so we don't cause harm to others.
Anyhow, new strip for you all to enjoy.

10-12-2006

I may not have had to queue quite as long as Jason the duck in our strips, but I did still have to turn up early to make sure of getting my paws on a Nintendo Wii. And fun it is too. I'm sure multiplayer is really cool, if a little dangerous in cramped conditions! All this the Quackers team will possibly find out in the new strip.

6-12-2006

The launch of the Wii is so close you can practically taste it... Not that I'd advise licking games consoles to see what they taste like. As the countdown continues, so do the strips based on this weeks theme with today's instalment.

4-12-2006

Anyone who knows me, or who worked with me in my last job, will know how excited I get about new games consoles. Admittedly I don't get as obsessive as today's strip makes out... But yes, it's pretty close.
But it's ooooooh so close now!

3-12-2006

You need to really think about what you wish for. it's not always what you expect, as you can tell from the latest strip. Makes you think twice about what you want to put on your Christmas lists to Santa!

29-11-2006

Today's strip is dedicated to all the fans of Quackers out there. I'm pretty sure there are some... Aren't there? No Mum, you don't count.

27-11-2006

Well what d'ya know, it seems like I'm getting the hang of this 3 strips a week thing! The short break I had, along with cutting the workload a little (as well as figuring out a better schedule to get them done in) has all gone to ensure that I can now bring you Quackers on a regular basis and on the days I promise them. That's a big 'ol "yay" needed right there :D
And so with all that in mind, enjoy today's strip, why don't you?

25-11-2006

So here you go, a new strip and on time, too! So, now it's time to head to bed... In mid afternoon... I'm really not getting used to these night shifts.

22-11-2006

Only a quick note today to say that the next strip is up and my creativity flow seems to be back in gear at last! Now if only I had more time to work on them!

20-11-2006

Hello all, I'm back after the a needed break. Hope none of you suffered withdrawal too badly. And what better way is there to return, than to post a new strip?
A decision was also made during my time away to limit the amount of strips to three a week. That way I can maintain a decent release schedule and also keep up with my other work. Postings will generally be up on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, although these could change depending on my workload. However three new strips a week will always be the aim!

12-11-2006

A new strip has been posted, but it will be the last one for this week. The Quackers website may have only been running for around five months, but I have been creating these strips every week since February without a break. As such the strips will be put on hiatus for one week while I take some time to recouperate and get my brain back into gear (as well as get over the cold I've suddenly developed). This does also mean there won't be any major break over Christmas, so you'll be able to enjoy Quackers strips right through the holiday!
I wish all of you the very best for this week, and be sure to check back here on the 20th Nov for the next strip.

10-11-2006

Tadaa! As promised, a new strip!. Hopefully this should appease anyone who was feeling a little upset that there wasn't anything new on here yesterday (you all know who you are!).

9-11-2006

I know that I usually have a new strip ready by now, but not today. Just haven't had the time. Although what time I have had has been spent productively, creating new strips for the upcoming weeks and months. A new strip will be up tomorrow, so don't panic, and be sure to stop by again tomorrow.

Works in progress

7-11-2006

There's not a lot going on at the moment, so all there is to say is I hope you enjoy the latest strip.

5-11-2006

Bofire Night? Nah, I'm not bothering with a strip about that! OK, so that's mostly because I haven't had the time or any ideas to do one... But that's not stopped me from making and posting a new strip anyway!

2-11-2006

Thankfully the troubles of the other day with my internet connection looked to be a one-time thing. Everything has been working ok since then, so it looks like any panic over being unable to upload new content is over! And to prove things are ok, a new strip has been posted :)

31-10-2006

A delayed posting of the Halloween strip is now up. The delay was due to connectivity problems through my dsl line reminiscent of the problems I had when the site was first established. This problem may continue, so I apologise now for any further delays in future postings. More news will be posted as the situation develops.

29-10-2006

Sometimes things can get even the most optimistic person down once in a while. But there are always some sure-fire ways to cheer them back up! As such today's strip is dedicated to my friend Moose, who needs a a little cheering up (ruffles tend to work well). Hope it helps ;)

27-10-2006

There's not long to go now. You'll probably all be glad to note that with Halloween a mere four days away the end is in sight for all these "scary" Halloween themed strips! Of course that also means I have four more days left to sneak in as many as I want before it's too late :D
Head here to see the latest travesty.

25-10-2006

OK, so the latest strip was delayed. In the end it took a lot more work to put together than I had originally planned. My day job (you know, the one that actually pays) also got in the way a little and added to the lack of productivity. Delays notwithstanding, the strip is now up. Hope that it was worth the wait!

22-10-2006

Let the Halloween fun continue with today's strip! And yes, there's still plenty more to look forward to over this week ;)
I have been suffering a slight creative block lately, which is a little worrying when it comes to creating new strips. Thankfully, I still have a heathy amount in reserve, so there won't be any shortages just yet! Fingers (or paws, hooves, feathers or whatever else you have) crossed the block will lift soon.

20-10-2006

Not a lot to say today. Just go ahead and view today's strip :)

18-10-2006

So, with just under two weeks to go until Halloween, here begins the obligatory run of paranormal and horror themed strips. OK, so by horror I mean it's a good excuse to work in references to films I like, but that doesn't sound nearly as exciting.

Tired. Brain feels like mush. Hard to thingy... You know... Concentrate. Yet another day when drawing is something I'm unable to do properly. Think I'll just go have a lie down while you guys check out the latest strip. Hopefully by the time the next strip is due I should be back on form!

14-10-2006

Don't you hate it when someone does something that makes them smug and they decide to rub it in your face by doing a happy dance at you? Yeah, ok, so that was me the other night when I went bowling for the first time in a few years. But each time it was merely a short-term victory as I didn't win any of the games. I also paid the price the next day by discovering every muscle ached... Something that no doubt amuses my friends no end.
Anyway, there's a new strip today, and quite probably one tomorrow as well! Now if you'll excuse me, I have some aching muscles to cry over.

11-10-2006

I'm not a morning person, as anyone who knows me will surely agree with. Unfortunately my new job has me starting work at 7am, which means I'm far from being at my best when I get there. It is also for this reason that I blame the lack of quality in the drawing in my latest strip. I wouldn't normally post something unless I'm totally happy with it (or near enough), but today I can't draw for toffee... Or any other treats.

09-10-2006

Despite the turmoil that has been going on over the weekend with my computer's unwelcome attempts at practical joking, I'm catching up to where I wanted to be with my strips so far. All being well I shall be posting another one tomorrow in a desperate attempt to make up for the delays last week!

08-10-2006

A much delayed new strip finally gets posted today. Due to the file I was working with getting lost mid-way through the creation of the comic, I had to redo the whole thing. Does anyone else feel like working with computers is sometimes like working with the Three Stooges?

05-10-2006

Typical, isn't it? Just as I make a plan to ensure regular postings to the site I go and get myself a job that throws the whole thing out! Never fear though, for I shall attempt to keep posting several strips a week to the site. And here's hoping that the new job doesn't affect my output. After all, how tiring can a bookshop be?
Enjoy the latest strip! :)

01-10-2006

Please be aware that today's strip features dark humour that some of the more sensitive or less humourous amongst you might not find so entertaining. To those people I give out a heartfelt "Meh", and remind you all that I can't please everyone all the time. Consider yourselves forwarned. For the rest of you, enjoy.
A new series of strips will start over this next week!

30-09-2006

Sometimes you have one of those days when things go your way and you just can't stop grinning like a maniac. It seems like I've had one of those weeks! Here's hoping things stay that way! To celebrate this good turn of events go peruse the latest strip.

27-09-2006

Helping a friend move their things from one place to another really makes you think about the amount of stuff you end up collecting over the years. Looking at my own collection of StuffTM I feel I may have a tad much when it comes to frivolous entertainment and nothing in the way of meaningful necessities. But what the heck, frovolity is fun!
So being the frivolous person I am I've cobbled together another strip for you all to add to your evidence locker to help prove my insanity to the authorities. Enjoy.

25-09-2006

Recently I corrolated all the strips I have planned for the future into some kind of workable plan, along with figuring out when to make time to do them all. A pretty big acheivement for me considering how disorganised I usually am when it comes to these things. What this means for you, the reader, is that I should hopefully be able to post at regular intervals. This is a good thing as you all might not be left waiting so long between strips, as happened the other week. While I will be trying to post on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, this is not set in stone as I find my plans go out the window all too easily. However, I shall be endeavouring to post around 3 strips a week and around those particular days.
On a different note, if you include the one posted today there are now 25 easter eggs hidden on the site. This might not be the most important information to tell you all, but it will certainly give you and my friends something to do finding out if you got them all over the last few months :D
Oh, and there's a new strip today as well!

24-09-2006

It's amazing what two days of apathy can do for your sense of motivation when you eventually feel like doing something. Of course by that time the things you're finally getting around to doing are overdue and you've got yourself into so much trouble that you end up back in an apathetic state again as a result. But hey, at least you'll be raring to get everything else you've let slide done when you've recovered!
Here's the latest strip, completely unrelated to this drivel.

22-09-2006

Today's strip is the result of what happens when people request me to do cartoons for them based on stuff they think should be included. "Something to do with the medical profession," said my medically trained professional friends. You should all know by now that you'll never quite get what you asked for when it comes to getting me to do something, so I hope you enjoy the surrealism you've unleashed on everyone, there's plenty more to come!

20-09-2006

Sleep. Sleep is an important part of life. Make sure that you get enough, but make sure that you also get it at the right time of day! Remember, a snooze attack can happen at any time unless you're vigilant!

18-09-2006

You go away for the weekend to visit friends, play masses of video games and drink lots. Then you finally get back home and this is how you feel... It's not a good look you know!

15-09-2006

Many of you (if not all of you) will be glad to know that today's strip is the last one where I venture into the realm of video games... At least for a while. Sorry to all those of you who didn't enjoy it, but it was something I had to finish. At least it got the urge out of my system without plagerising from too many companies or other webcomics!
*sly grin*
Abnormal service shall be resumed soon.

10-09-2006

It's taken a while this time, but I've finally posted a new strip. A big sorry goes out to all the fans of this comic (both of you) for taking so long with this, but Life got in the way. Also there were some things that were out of my control which left me less than willing to draw anything. Things should be back to normal again this week, all being well, so keep watching.

02-09-2006

It seems that autumn is beginning to make it's presence felt here. Autumnal berries have appeared on bushes everywhere, the trees are starting to loose their leaves and the weather... Well the weather's still pretty much the same rain and stuff as last month, but that's what I get for living in the UK. Anyone who knows me wil probably also know that I'm anti-autumn and anti-winter as I dislike the cold and the shorter days. This is why I've started a campaign to either ban the colder seasons or at least get them shortened so that we may have longer summers. This campaign has been taking up more time than I had imagined and is the main reason why I've not been posting strips as often as I had before.
...
What? You're not buying it? OK, so I've simply been a little lazy, but you can't blame a guy for trying. Take a look at the latest strip to take your mind off it for a while.

26-08-2006

I think that the goomba minions in the Mario games are very misunderstood. It can't be easy being so short and squashable. And life's not made any easier by some random plumber coming along and taking advantage of your squishiness. Yes, I think people should think more about the plight these poor little mushrooms have to endure... If only they didn't look like a-
Anyway, enjoy today's comic!

26-08-2006

Play any of the Super Mario Bros games and one of the first things you notice is that almost everything has a face. From Stars to mushrooms and vegetables to bricks... Is this Nintendo's way of getting us used to a Big Brother culture? Or did someone simply overdose on the cute pills? Either way, scary faces are the topic of today's comic.

23-08-2006

Today's strip pays tribute to one of my most favourite game series. There wasn't any real reason for it, for those who are wondering. I did it just because I can :)
Also, Quackers is now listed at OnlineComics.net. Hopefully this should help spread the word of Quackers to the masses that bit easier! For those of you joining us from OnlineComics, welcome! If you like what you see feel free to support this site or post any comments at our OnlineComics support page.

18-08-2006

Just a quick posting tonight. After all the fuss made over Samuel L Jackson's new film lately, I thought it only appropriate to mention it here in a new toon as well.

16-08-2006

Due to popular demand a new strip has been made featuring the tortoises mentioned in a previous strip. There will be more to come in the future, assuming they manage to make it back home in time to appear in another episode...

14-08-2006

A special treat for all the fans out there as we have two, count 'em, two new strips! First up is another episode in the van. Following that is a special strip made to celebrate a friend's decision to leave his old job for something new.
And so as another of my old workmates leaves his job to discover pastures new, we wish him luck and begin taking bets on who is to go next!

09-08-2006

Problems with my ISP continue to persist in much the same way as that irritating piece of pineapple you got stuck in your teeth one time refused to go away. Despite this I'm managing to maintain updates here, so we'll count that as a good thing. It'll be a little while until the next update of Untold Story; possibly next week. Just hang in there as I won't leave it too long! (ISPs and techno-gremlins permitting) A continuation of today's strip may be coming up before the weekend, paws crossed, so that should give you something else to look forward to in the interrim.

01-08-2006

Due to problems with my current ISP, I have been unable to get online to upload any updates to this site. This is something I deeply regret after finally getting things running. It is something that I am trying to rectify; mostly by leaving the ISP I'm using at the minute and switching to another, more reliable service provider. This may take a little more time, however, as I get things sorted out between the services, so I can't promise updates as regularly as I'd like. At the moment I can get online briefly, which has allowed this update to take place.
I hope to have things back to normal sometime soon, but for now I hope the additions to the Special Features section and the latest strip will make up for some of the wait. Please bear with me and I promise I'll eventually get things running regularly as soon as I can!

08-07-2006

It's sad to think that the first piece of news for my new site is about its delayed launch. Yes, many of you believed it would be in June and it's now July. Any launch at all looked doubtful however when there was a "glitch" with my computer which rendered it totally unusable. The moral of the experience? You can never make enough backups.
Things are running smoothly now though, so let me kick things off with...

A bit of background:

There are things in life that you think about doing, but never get around to. Then there are things you think about doing, start, but never finish. Also, there are times you don't even think about something that you end up doing anyway through some random act of fate. This website was one of those things.
I hadn't given the idea of putting my cartoons onto the internet any serious thought. They've always been something I've done for myself and friends and that's it. Yet it was these friends who managed to convince me to enter the realm of webcomics. So, now you know who to blame…
It is because of the dedication, input, help, support, financial backing and insistence of these friends that I was able to create this site and provide content for it. Without them, there would be no Quackers, and so I shall take this opportunity to thank them.

Thank you.

As for the rest of you, thanks for checking things out. There may be some changes in the coming weeks as things get tweaked and my brain kicks back into gear from all the code I've been writing. I shall endeavour to keep things running smoothly and provide new content about once a week to begin with (all being well), so here's hoping at least some of you become regular visitors.
